This is one of the few turn-based RPGs that the Xbox 360 has to offer. It is quite a unique experience in general; anybody who's played turn-based JRPG games will feel right at home, yet the story and cutesy demeanor of the game make it a standout. It's not an incredibly complex game, but that's fitting considering it isn't marketed toward the hardcore JRPG crowd. With that being said, there are (free) downloadable difficulty modes that will crank up the challenge if you find the game tediously easy. If you're wondering what exactly is in store, imagine Final Fantasy meets Dragonball. I say this because Square Enix members (including the legendary composer, Nobuo Uematsu) and Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama provided work on it.

I have to admit, this isn't Uematsu's finest work sound-wise, but there are a few nice pieces. I'm not too fond of the singing in the boss fight tune, but it's something I grew used to. The length of the game is a definite plus, and it never lost appeal entirely before the adventure was over, which is also to be applauded. As an achievement hunter, I wasn't happy to see that there are achievements for grinding, which is something that plagues turn-based RPGs in general, but the game itself is paced just right so that you'll not have to grind if you make wise development choices. All in all, try this out if you like turn-based JRPGs; this is a game of a dying breed, especially on the Xbox platform.

I love JRPGs! Square Enix has been making pretty solid games as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, which I all liked. While they're not turn based, they are JRPGs. I'll see what Blue Dragon has to offer, thanks.

I have quite a bit of confidence in Square Enix and Blue Dragon sounds good to me. It's kind of sad that these games are becoming a rarity.
