Welcome to the Achievement Guide for Aliens: Colonial Marines. Developed by Gearbox Software and published by SEGA, it is the second Aliens title on the Xbox 360. The game has a total of 50 achievements totalling 1000G. The achievements are not very difficult, but they can be a bit time consuming, as they require you to achieve Level 60 (maximum). Fortunately, all the game modes add to the total XP for this so that should help. There are also no missable achievements as there is a “Mission Select” feature in the game.
The list of achievements is mainly split into campaign and multiplayer ones. There are also a series of challenges that have to be completed, but those are also split between singleplayer and multiplayer.
The campaign has four different difficulty settings, but only three achievements related to those. Fortunately, they are stackable so if you only want to go through the campaign once, you can do it. It is not really recommended as it is easier to acquire certain mission-specific achievements and challenges on the lowest difficulty, while also adding to your total XP towards Level 60. The game also has a co-op feature allowing you to play through the campaign with up to 4 friends, which is highly recommended because it makes everything much easier, given that you can revive each other.
A lot of the multiplayer intended achievements can actually be obtained in a range of different game modes, including campaign. The most time consuming achievements will be the ones related to challenges and levelling up your Marine, so be sure to check these out before you begin playing for a more streamlined experience.
To simplify, this is my recommendation:
ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES ACHIEVEMENTS
Another Day in the Corps! (20G)
Complete Distress
This achievement is story related so it cannot be missed. Read the description of Game Over, Man for more details and the mission specific achievements.
This achievement should unlock upon completion of the first mission.
Bad Feeling About This Drop (20G)
Complete Sulaco Falls
This achievement is story related so it cannot be missed. Read the description of Game Over, Man for more details and the mission specific achievements.
This achievement should unlock upon completion of the 3rd mission.
Quoth the Raven (20G)
Complete The Raven
This achievement is story related so it cannot be missed. Read the description of Game Over, Man for more details and the mission specific achievements.
This achievement should unlock upon completion of the 5th mission.
Still Got a Job to Do (20G)
Complete Rampart
This achievement is story related so it cannot be missed. Read the description of Game Over, Man for more details and the mission specific achievements.
This achievement should unlock upon completion of the 8th mission.
Dragged Queen (20G)
Complete Home
This achievement is story related so it cannot be missed. Read the description of Game Over, Man for more details and the mission specific achievements.
This achievement should unlock upon completion of the 11th mission.
Game Over, Man! (30G)
Complete all Campaign levels on any difficulty
This achievement is story related so it cannot be missed.
As the description says, you have to finish the campaign story once on any difficulty. I recommended earlier that you start on the lowest difficulty first, but you do not have to as difficulty achievements are stackable. Playing on the easiest difficulty also gives you the opportunity to look for the collectibles.
The following achievements are mission specific and you should try obtaining them while playing through the game:
Not Bad For a Human (40G)
Complete all Campaign levels on Hardened difficulty
This achievement will unlock when you finish the campaign on the Hardened difficulty (second hardest). If you played through the game on a lower difficulty it is pointless playing it on this one, as you should skip directly to the next difficulty, Ultimate Badass. Read State of the Badass Art for more details.
State of the Badass Art (50G)
Complete all Campaign levels on Ultimate Badass difficulty
To obtain this achievement you will have to complete all the missions on the Ultimate Badass difficulty which is the hardest difficulty setting of the game. I recommend playing co-op as it makes things easier (there is a revive option in co-op) if you manage to find a good teammate.
If you have problems completing the campaign or you don’t want to spend all that time playing the missions again, there is another way to obtain this achievement. The description for this one states that you have to complete all campaign levels on this difficulty, but they don’t have to be all in one go. So if you can join random games, you don’t have to play through the whole mission; you just have to be there before the mission ends and the game should count that as a completed Ultimate Badass level. Check under “Campaign Records” in the “Service Record” menu option to see which is the highest difficulty on which you have completed a certain level. Some people report having issues with this method, but usually replaying one mission by yourself should fix this.
Short, Controlled Bursts (20G)
Defeat all Xenomorphs in the Sulaco hangar bay without them crossing your barricade
This achievement can be obtained in Mission 1, about halfway into it. Keyes is attempting to unlock a keypad after you come back in the hangar bay with the dropship that explodes in it. There will be a small barricade with a few other Marines between Keyes and the dropship and you have to defend it and don’t let anything cross this barrier. When the door is open you have to fall back and once you are in, the achievement should unlock.
Fire Drill (20G)
Arm the emergency release and escape in under 2:30 on Sulaco Falls
This achievement can be obtained in Mission 3, right at the end. You will find yourself in a hangar with a dropship and you have to arm the emergency release to escape in under 2:30 minutes. The time starts as soon as you enter the hangar.
As you enter the hangar, the first computer that needs to be activated is in front of you and to the left, up a couple flights of stairs. After that’s done, fight your way to the end of the platform, on the other side of the room, where the platform in front of you will come tumbling down. Right behind you, another room will open, where the crane controls are. Clear the room and activate that computer to repair the fallen platform. After that is done and the crane puts the new piece in place, the last computer is right in front of you. Activate that, jump down to the dropship and once you are up the ramp, a cutscene should begin and the achievement should pop up.
If you lose your way or pass the 2:30 mark you can always use the “Restart Checkpoint” and give it another go.
Mostly Come at Night... (20G)
Find Newt's doll
This achievement can be obtained in Mission 5, in the sewers. You will at one point activate a pump and some Aliens will attack it and explode in the process. Continue down that path and at the end of it, there will be three barrels. You are not actually looking for doll, but for a doll’s head which will be found on one of those three barrels.
Just a Grunt (20G)
Complete Hope in Hadley's
This achievement is story related so it cannot be missed. Read the description of Game Over, Man for more details and the mission specific achievements.
This achievement should unlock upon completion of the 9th mission.
No Need For Alarm (20G)
Complete One Bullet without setting off the alarm
This achievement can be obtained in Mission 7, when you are in the labs. You have to go through them without the scientists setting of the alarm. There are only two rooms that have an alarm, with two or three scientists in each of them. You are not required to be stealthy, so it does not matter if they see you; your bullets just have to reach them before they reach the alarm. Even if they reach the alarm, you have a short amount of time in which you can hit the switch and cancel the alarm, still giving you the achievement. If you managed not to set off any alarms, the achievement should unlock at the end of the mission.
Do not worry about the first scientist that will actually set off the alarm because that cannot be avoided and it does not affect the achievement. Use a shotgun for maximum efficiency and if any of them sounded the alarm, just restart from the nearest checkpoint and give it another try.
Heavy Lifting (20G)
Defeat the Raven in under 1:10 on Soldier difficulty or higher
This achievement can be obtained in Mission 5, right at the end. You will have the opportunity to kill The Raven that followed you around the whole mission. You will arrive in an open place, with a loader in the middle. You will have to get into it and after a few moments, the Raven will break in through the door and from then on you have 1:10 minutes to defeat him. It is practically a boxing match between you and him, but even with the help of the loader and all the other Marines around in can be a bit difficult to do it in the required time. After you defeat him, a cutscene will play and the achievement should unlock shortly after.
If you think you took too long, use the “Restart Checkpoint” feature to give it another go.
Adios, Muchachos (20G)
Gib two enemies at once
This achievement is a bit confusing as you can only obtain it by “gibbing” Aliens. To gib an enemy you simply have to kill him with an explosive weapon (such as a grenade or the grenade launcher attachment for the assault rifle). To count as a “gib” their bodies have to blow up in pieces and cannot just be killed by the explosion. So whenever you see two or more Xenomorphs close together, cook up a grenade or launch a grenade at them and hope you “gib” both of them.
This achievement can also be obtained in multiplayer (easiest in the extermination mode).
Field Promotion (10G)
Earn Rank 2 as a Marine
For this achievement you have to earn Level 2 as a Marine. Read the description of I Love the Corps! for more information. This can be obtained through a mixture of singleplayer, multiplayer and challenge awarded XP.
Lean and Mean (20G)
Earn Rank 20 as a Marine
For this achievement you have to earn Level 20 as a Marine. Read the description of I Love the Corps! for more information. This can be obtained through a mixture of singleplayer, multiplayer and challenge awarded XP.
I Love the Corps! (40G)
Earn Rank 60 as a Marine
For this achievement you have to earn Level 60 as a Marine. This is the maximum level and it can be obtained through a mixture of singleplayer, multiplayer and challenge awarded XP. I recommend that first of all you finish the campaign on the Ultimate Badass difficulty, complete all the challenges and unlock all the other achievements, leaving this one last before you start farming for XP for this one. After I have finished all these, I was well into the mid-40s levels. You will need a total of 234000 XP for Level 60.
The easiest way for acquire XP fast is in Mission 11 (the final one), by completing it on the Ultimate Badass difficulty with another friend. It can also be done solo, but it is way easier with a friend because you can use teamwork and earn around 2850 XP in less than 4 minutes every time. One of you has to keep the queen busy and the other one has to run around and hit all the switches. After that, both should go to the final switch, lure the Queen over the loader and hit that switch.
Oorah to Ashes (10G)
Collect a Dog Tag
There are a total of 35 Dog Tags throughout the game that can be found. They will also give you an XP bonus when you pick them up. You only have to pick one for this achievement.
Read the description of Remember the Fallen for more detailed information.
Remember the Fallen (30G)
Collect all 35 Dog Tags
For this achievement you have to collect all the 35 Dog Tags available in the game.
To check which ones you already have and which ones you are missing, from the main menu go to “Service Record” and from there to “Special Projects”.
The 35 Dogs Tags in the game can be found in the following missions:
Personal Friend of Mine (10G)
Collect a Legendary Weapon
There are a total of 6 Legendary Weapons that can be picked in the game and for this achievement you only need to pick up one. The picked up weapons can be used in multiplayer.
I Like to Keep These Handy (30G)
Collect all 6 Legendary Weapons
There are only 6 Legendary weapons in the game and for this achievement you have to collect all of them. The weapons can be found on the following missions:
Another Bug Hunt (5G)
Complete a Challenge
Challenges are small tasks that need to be completed. They are separated into three categories and there are a total of 86 challenges. Completing each will grant you a 500 XP bonus towards your Level 60 Marine. Each category will have one active challenge (giving you three active challenges at a time) and completing it will unlock another one in the same category.
For this achievement to unlock, you only have to complete one challenge.
For a list of all the challenges read the description of the Distinguished Service Medal achievement.
Stay Frosty (20G)
Complete an entire Challenge category
For this achievement to unlock, you have to complete one of the three categories of challenges available. The easiest one to do is the Campaign Challenges as there are only 13 challenges.
For a list of all the challenges read the description of the Distinguished Service Medal achievement.
Distinguished Service Medal (30G)
Complete all Challenges
This is one of the hardest and most time consuming achievements of this game. You have to complete all the 86 challenges in the game. The complete list of challenges can be found below:
Marine Challenges:
I Feel Safer Already (10G)
Have another player join your party
This is as easy as it sounds. Just invite someone in your party and as soon as they join it, the achievement will unlock. It can also be done using a second controller. As soon as you sing in on the Main Menu, you will obtain the achievement.
Don't Count Me Out (5G)
Revive a teammate
This achievement can be obtained in co-op. When a teammate is shot down by enemies, they will fall on the ground until someone revives them. Just go over to them and revive them and the achievement is yours as soon as they are back up.
This achievement can also be obtained with a second controller in splitscreen. Let the other player get shot down and just revive them.
Ready to Fry Half a City (5G)
Edit a Marine Loadout
This achievement can be very easily obtained once you reach level 3. You will unlock your first weapon, the assault rifle and you just have to go into "Marine Loadouts" in the "Versus" menu and equip it and the achievement will just pop up.
Structural Perfection (5G)
Edit a Xenomorph Loadout
This achievement can be unlocked as soon as you reach Level 2 with an Alien. You should get this in no time in multiplayer. After that, go to “Versus” from the main menu and select “Edit Loadouts” and “Xeno Loadouts”. Spend an unlock point on anything and equip it and the achievement will unlock.
Perfect Killing Machine (20G)
Upgrade every Loadout slot for a Xenomorph class
This achievement can be unlocked when you reach Level 7 with an Alien. Decide on one of the classes (Lurker or Spitter) and when you reach Level 7 purchase an upgrade in each available slot for that class. After that, equip all the upgrades and the achievement is yours.
Field Modified, Kill Certified (20G)
Upgrade every slot for a weapon
For this achievement you need to upgrade all the slots for any weapon. The easiest one to do so is the Service Pistol as it only has three possible upgrades. It might be possible that you also need to change the weapon skin for the weapon for this. After you purchased all the three upgrade slots, the achievement should unlock.
You Look Just Like I Feel (30G)
Upgrade every Appearance slot once for your Marine
For this achievement you have to upgrade all the appearance slots for your Marine. You do this by unlocking items to customise your Marine by completing challenges. In the challenge section you can see what upgrades each completed challenge will unlock. You must do it on the male Marine because the female does not have a helmet and it will not count for the achievement. You can edit the Marine’s Appearance in the “Versus” menu.
For the achievement to unlock, you have to make at least one change in every of the following categories: Head, Skin Tint, Cloth pattern, Armour Pattern, Helmet, Left Chest, Right Chest, Belt, Left Leg, Face Paint, Helmet Emblem, Chest Emblem, Shoulders, Left Shoulder Emblem, Right Shoulder Emblem, Left Arm Tattoo, Right Arm Tattoo and Voice Set.
Adaptive Morphology (30G)
Upgrade every Appearance slot once for a Xenomorph class
Luckily, the Xenomorphs have fewer slots that need to be upgraded to unlock this achievement. There are only two items that need to be upgrade: head and skin, both of which can be upgrade by completing challenges.
Depending on your class of choice it depends, when the necessary items will be unlocked:
Purchase all Upgrades for a weapon
To unlock this achievement you will need to purchase all the upgrades for any weapon. The earliest you will be able to do this is as a Level 18 Marine, upgrading either your Service Pistol or your Combat Pistol. Both of them only need three upgrades for the achievement as the skins do not count for this one.
Majority Shareholder (25G)
Spend 30 Commendations
Commendations are the upgrade points used in the game and they are earned when ranking up. The earliest you will get 30 Commendations is when you reach Level 31 so after that just spend all the points on upgrading any weapon you like. Before you do though, that read the description of I Can Handle Myself.
I Heard THAT (25G)
Collect all 12 Audio Logs
Audio Logs are another collectible that can be found throughout the game. They look like laptops and the glow blue when you are close to them. The 12 Audio Logs can be found on the following missions:
Entry Prohibited (20G)
Kill 10 Xenomorphs that are using vents
Vents here refer to any opening through which aliens might come from. It will most surely come with natural progression through the game as I unlocked the achievement in the first level without even trying.
Let's Rock! (20G)
Kill 10 Xenomorphs in a game with the M56A2 Smart Gun
This achievement can be obtained in Mission 4 you will have to go with O’Neal and take a M56A2 Smart Gun. After that, just kill 10 Xenomorphs with it and the achievement will pop up. It’s really easy because the gun auto targets enemies and this achievement should come with natural progression through the game. If somehow you miss this achievement just use “Reload Checkpoint” and kill a few more until it unlocks.
Need a Deck Of Cards? (5G)
Set up a UA 571-C Remote Sentry
This achievement can be obtained in Mission 4, in the same place where you can obtain Let’s Rock!. When you are sent off to get a sentry turret, you just need to pick it up and bring it back. Set it in the required spot and the achievement is yours.
Micro Changes in Air Density (10G)
Track 100 hostile targets with the Motion Tracker
For this achievement you need to equip your motion tracker by pressing Left Bumper every time the “Radar” prompt appears on the screen or when you hear the specific noise. Do this 100 times and the achievement should pop up.
It can also be done in multiplayer, but it is not worth bothering because you can probably get this in the first few missions very easily.
It's a Dry Heat (20G)
Kill 3 enemies with a single U4 Firebomb
The firebomb will become available once you reach Level 4. Bring up the weapon wheel by holding Y and the Firebomb is on the left. You then need to light three enemies on fire at the same time for the achievement to unlock. I got it at the end of Chapter 6, when I had to wait for the door to open and a bunch of enemies try and go through.
Eat This! (10G)
Kill a Xenomorph with a shotgun at very close range
This achievement is as simple as it sounds. Just get very close to a Xenomorph and obliterate him with a shotgun. It can actually be done on the very first encounter with Aliens in the game. Easy 10G.
Coming Outta the Walls! (10G)
Kill a Xenomorph climbing on the walls or ceiling
Another easy achievement; just shoot any Xenomorph that you see climbing on the walls or the ceiling and the achievement will unlock. This one can also be easily obtained on your first encounter with Aliens. Another easy 10G for you.
Secreted from What? (20G)
Kill 5 Spitters without being damaged by acid
This achievement can be unlocked in Mission 6, in the cave with Spitters. If you just stay back and use a scoped weapon to take them out, you should not take any damage and unlock the achievement. Just restart from the nearest checkpoint if you get hit.
If you are having problems unlocking it in the campaign, it can be unlocked very easily in multiplayer if you have a friend to help you out. It needs to be done in one game, but in a 1v1 Team Deathmatch it should not be a problem.
No Offense (20G)
Melee a Lurker that is pouncing towards you
For this achievement you have to react fast when a Lurker is pouncing towards you and melee him while he is in the air. An easy place to try for this achievement is at the end of Mission 4, where the 3 Lurkers spawn. Keep trying to melee them when they are in the air pouncing at you and keep restarting the checkpoint until you get it right.
An easier way to achieve this is to just set up a 1v1 Team Deathmatch with a friend and have him be a Lurker. After a couple of tries, the achievement should be yours.
Arbitrarily Exterminated (30G)
Kill 2179 Xenomorphs
This is another one of the more time consuming achievements that this game has. I would first recommend that you finish the campaign, go for all the others mission specific and miscellaneous achievements and complete all the challenges to minimize the time needed to farm for this one. After you have done all that, load Mission 4, play until the point where you get the Smart Gun, clear out the tunnels and then restart from the last checkpoint. It may take some time, but this is the fastest way to farm for this.
TIP: do this on Ultimate Bad Ass to earn more XP towards your Level 60 Marine.
Anytime, Anywhere (20G)
Kill a Crusher without it damaging you
This is a pretty hard achievement to obtain in the campaign, but luckily there is a glitch that can make the job a lot easier. You will find the Crusher in Mission 9, after you rescue some Marines and repel an ambush and after that you will find yourself back outside. You will go through a metal gate and once it closes, you can hear the Crusher, but it will also create a checkpoint. Once you hear the Crusher go back to the gate you came through and on the left (as you came in) part of the door you will see a heap of metal with a small incline. Go up and if you are in the right position, the Crusher will not even move from its initial position. It will probably use up most of your ammo, but the achievement should pop up as soon as you kill it. Things to note are that its head is damage proof and that you have to take the killing shot, not the AI. If it dies and the achievement does not pop up, just restart from the last checkpoint and try again.
Love at First Sight (10G)
Survive a Close Encounter with a Facehugger
This achievement will most probably unlock through normal progression of the game. The first instance where you can unlock it is in Mission 2, where you first encounter the Facehugger. Just allow him to jump on you and mash the X button until he is no longer on your face. Achievement unlocked!
...But No Cigar (20G)
Rescue a teammate from a Close Encounter
Easiest way to try for this achievement is with 2 controllers, in splitscreen, in Mission 2. In the same place where the Facehugger attacked you for Love at First Sight, let the second player be on the receiving end of the “hug” and then quickly shoot the Facehugger off him (preferably with a shotgun).
As always, if you fail, just reload the last checkpoint and try again.
Secret Achievements
Easter Egg (5G)
Find the Easter Egg
Almost halfway through Mission 2, after you fend off a few Facehuggers, if you keep your eyes peeled you will see a keypad that you can use but that appears to do nothing. Go back the way you came and at the end of a corridor you will see an open door that was previously locked. Just go in and you will see 4 Eggs in a semi-circle. Shoot them and the achievement is yours.
Collectibles Guide
The easiest way to obtain all the collectibles available in the game is to follow the video below. It has all the 53 collectibles that have to be found in one place. Below the video, you will find the time in the video at which each specific item can be found. Happy Hunting!

If you are with me so far and you have done everything on this list, Congratulations! You are well on your way to another 1000G (although grinding for that XP might take a bit).
Obviously, if you have any suggestions, problems or just general feedback, feel free to post here or send me a PM.
Enjoy the game
- 1st playthrough of Campaign on Recruit
- Make sure you pick up all the collectibles and finish all the mission specific achievements (see Game Over, Man!)
[*][*]Work your way to completing as many challenges as possible
- Make sure you pick up all the collectibles and finish all the mission specific achievements (see Game Over, Man!)
- 2nd playthrough of Campaign of Ultimate Badass
- Unlock miscellaneous achievements
- Complete all the challenges
- Arbitrarily Exterminated

Game Over, Man! (30G)
Complete all Campaign levels on any difficulty
This achievement is story related so it cannot be missed.
As the description says, you have to finish the campaign story once on any difficulty. I recommended earlier that you start on the lowest difficulty first, but you do not have to as difficulty achievements are stackable. Playing on the easiest difficulty also gives you the opportunity to look for the collectibles.
The following achievements are mission specific and you should try obtaining them while playing through the game:
- Short, Controlled Bursts (Mission 1)
- Fire Drill (Mission 3)
- Mostly Come at Night... (Mission 5)
- Heavy Lifting (Mission 5)
- No Need For Alarm (Mission 7)

Personal Friend of Mine (10G)
Collect a Legendary Weapon

I Like to Keep These Handy (30G)

- Mission 4 – Gorman’s Pistol
- Mission 5 – Hudson’s Pulse Rifle
- Mission 6 – Vasquez’s Smart Gun
- Mission 9 – Vasquez’s Pistol

- Spitter class unlock everything along with completion of the Multiplayer Challenge #7 – Spit In Your Eye
- Lurker class unlock everything along with completion of the Multiplayer Challenge #8 – Cat-like Reflexes
- Spitter class unlock everything along with completion of the Multiplayer Challenge #13 – Blunt Force
- Mission 1 – 1 Audio Log
- Request for Re-assingment
- Mission 2 – 2 Audio Logs
- RE: Request for Re-assignment
- RE: RE: Request for Re-assignment
- Mission 4 – 1 Audio Log
- Please Mom…
- Mission 6 – 3 Audio Logs
- Supply Requisition Order
- Origin Construction Status Report
- Evacuation Notice
- Mission 7 – 3 Audio Logs
- Xenomorph Lifecycle Notes
- Hale Autopsy Report
- Security Concerns
- Mission 8 – 2 Audio Logs
- Queen Progress Report
- Origin Status Update
