Besides the obviously fresh theme, how do you think the new release of Assassin's Creed will do as far as popularity goes compared to the earlier "eras" of environment and culture (inviting the possibility of new weapons, historical figures, etc)? And do you think that this descendant of Ezio's will be as likeable of a main play to fans, as the character Ezio himself has been?

I don't know. Before the third Assassin's Creed, all of the others took place in Italy and the environment was breathtaking. I'm sure the graphics will be just as good if not better than earlier editions, but with the new time and location, I don't know if Assassin's Creed 3 will be as popular as the first two.

I think Assassin's Creed III has been even more popular than the first two, but then again, I've been paying a lot more attention to game advertising this year than in previous years. I'm sure fans will like the new guy just as much as Ezio, if not even more.

I'm not sure if players will like the new guy as much as Ezio or not. I think people have really gotten used to Ezio over the years. Altair was only heavily featured in the first Assassin's Creed, while Ezio has been in all of the Assassin's Creed games since. I think people are just going to have to get used to a new character.
