There are a few games that stand out for their visuals. Ryse is great for its linear spaces and Rise of the Tomb Raider for their awesome environments. Halo 5 is one game I really liked for its speed and skyboxes. Dying Light dazzled me with it's bright lights that were unmatched in any other game.

I was told diablo3 had some visually stunning graphics... ive seen it on twitch but can say I have never played it.

I think game designers are really stepping up their game nowadays (no pun intended) where graphics are concerned. I've been playing Fallout 4 for the past couple of days and, ignoring the random glitch here and there, I'm quite impressed with how the game looks.

I don't think any of the graphics matter yet, even though they're top notch. I have this feeling that everyone that cares about a good, well-made release is investing heavily in VR graphics, because that market is going to be overwhelmingly huge. This year should be full of fireworks @_@

In my opinion, the Xbox One still has a lot more potential than what has been taken advantage of. Game developers still need to innovate and create before this time comes. That does not mean that the visuals in today's Xbox One games aren't on par with other platforms. They're great. The games you all mentioned are proof of that. I especially appreciate the graphics on games like Tom Clancy's The Division ( from what I've seen, ) The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4. Mainly because even though the worlds are large in size, the amount of detail put into every texture is really good.

I think there is still a little more potential, just look at how long the Xbox 360 has lasted.

Yeah absolutely. The thing is that iconic, landmark games usually take 3~5 years to develop minimum, so even if a company started one, it shouldn't even be launching for a bit longer. People don't understand how much debugging and redesign and testing has to go into a GoTY, let alone a standout release that gets rave reviews. Gotta give these things time.

I tend to think that cartoony and colorful looking games are the most visually appealing. That's the reason why I think games like Super Mario 3D World and Yoshi's Woolly World are some of the best looking of this generation. However i want to point out that Halo 5 is in my opinion, the greatest looking game ever created. What I love about the Halo style is that it combines very clean, realistic graphics with vibrant and beautiful colors like you'd see in something like 3D World. That's probably my favorite art style of all time, hands down.

Theres no question for me that software houses are slowly starting to get to grips with the amount of power that the Xbox one as these days.

Just with the graphics on the newer games alone we can see they're a lot better looking than the games that came out 12 months ago and I can only see that trend developing further into the future.

Virtual reality glasses & time itself, as I said earlier, are the primary reasons you are seeing games steadily increasing in graphical power. What might seem like the developers getting better is just a product of time investment being translated into later releases. Virtual reality, on the other hand, is being more heavily invested in.

Well if more time and money is being invested in certain products, then the companies are bound to get better so I think we may be making the same point here, but just worded differently?

Either way the future is looking good for the consumers, and I think there's going to be a number of exciting years in store for us.

I love games that invest in beautiful scenarios, it makes any game so much more worth it. Every time I play Fallout 4 I find myself stopping in the middle of the road to stare at the landscape in front of me. Games that don't really worry about making the scenario immersive fail to capture me.

There's no doubt that the latest games are beautiful to look at and even games such as GTA V that are a couple of years old now, you can just walk around the city, taking in the sights and not even bother playing the game.

A lot of time and effort (and money) goes into making a game look as realistic as possible, if the same amount of effort went into the actual game play as well then I think it would be the perfect combination but as of yet, I don't think we've seen that from many games.

When consoles launch it takes a long time for the games to match. The problem here is now we'll be getting the new consoles and by the time the games visuals start to match the hardware potential of the system than we will see a launch of new hardware and it just keeps cycling.

Well for @sc_shark I would say that Diablo 3 did have some pretty good visuals, but they are a type of visuals that you really need to be ready for. Even though I knew the game and what it was all about I was still a little surprised myself. It is probably one of the best I would say, but there are certainly some others.

I agree that game developers these days are really stepping up their game, and although there are some really great graphics out there, there is still a lot of room for improvement in most games and I agree with Pwarbi that as far as the visuals go, we haven't really seen the best from many games.

When it comes to graphics on xbox, fallout 4 takes the cake.
The graphics are simply awesome, it's like you are playing the game only for the graphics.
i wish they would just fix the glitches as well, so that the game overall becomes seamless.

I think Metal Gear Solid 5 is OK, I don't think it hits my top list because it started slacking for me when I started playing 4, and the visual effects aren't that stunning to me. I guess it's because I haven't played it through.

Now quantum break on the other hand, very beautiful, rise was another one that had gorgeous effects. I love how technology allows cut scenes to go directly into the game play without pausing like they used to. Sometimes that catches you off guard you're already in game play mode, but you still thought it was a cut scene.

The problem with a lot of these visuals is they are so focused on cutscenes. They are trying to make the scenes look so believable and so realstic to keep in tone with the story but its actually taking away from the time they should be spending on actual gameplay that is faulty at best in some of these visually rich games.
