I remember with all the sneaky games developers and publishers were playing this generation, that the concept of boycotting games was a prevalent thing. Were there any boycotts you participated in, and better yet, STILL participating in?

I'm still boycotting Left4Dead 2 ever since Valve lied to players of Left4Dead. Everything that was added to L4D2 was originally advertised to be in an L4D expansion that was to be sold months later. Instead, months later, not even a full year later, LFD2 was sold as separate games and "sequel". Like many others, I was furious at the bold lie and cheap sequel release, so I joined the large boycott project. To this day I have still stuck to my guns, not tolerating lazy sequels.

The same games were played by Capcom via their many 'editions' that should just be expansions and add-ons, not full separate retail releases. Frankly, I don't miss them. Who else were/are gamers of principle still voting with their wallet?

Voting with your wallet is definitely the most realistic way of controlling the market, but sadly not enough people do it. I personally boycott all new EA releases these days. I used to be a huge fan of EA games but they've just been disappointments mixed with blatant cashgrabs. They don't care about their customers, all they want is money, the quality of their games has fallen to an unbelievably low level and I just don't think that they deserve my money. I'd rather give it to companies that care about their fans.

I agree with Medza on this.

People can say they're boycotting a game all they want. People can post up all the petitions they want. And people can whine on the internet till the end of time. But all that goes for naught if in the end people caved and give their money to the game anyway. So if you are going to boycott anything, you have to stick to your guns. If everyone did that, the quality of games would always be high because companies would realize the customer wouldn't make the purchase otherwise.

I haven't intentionally boycotted any games, but I do vote with my wallet all the time: The games I don't like, don't get purchased. Sends a pretty clear message I think ;)

Boycotts are a joke. The L4D2 boycott was such a sad joke, too. I remember people being like "**** VALVE, BOYCOTT L4D2!" and then those same people ended buying the game day one and playing it for hours.

Hell, I congratulate you if you're actually going through with your personal boycott, but it doesn't really do anything unless it's a massive amount of people boycotting.

Going to have to side with Claptrap on this one, those boycotts really don't do much unless a numerous amount of people actively participate in them. Also I can't say I've really boycotted any game specificly, I just don't buy games I don't want to play.

Yes this kind of ironic boycotting is the worse. Seemingly half of the internet hates EA for whatever reasons and they all pledge to boycott them, but when their new games come out, they always beat all sales records. I think that some people are just enjoying the attention of whining on the internet about something, but not many actually care.

It really just shows how people have become sheep and slaves to gaming. Because of their craving, they're slaves to these game companies. They don't have enough integrity to stick to their guns and actually follow through with the mission of their boycotts.

What's worse is that in the end they find excuses. Excuses like "I want to continue the story" or "because all my friends have it"

Yeah, they do end up buying and giving lame excuses like that. It's pretty sad that boycotts don't work because of these reasons, which is why I congratulate OniBlackMage if he really stuck to his guns on boycotting L4D2. Even though it's pointless at this point because L4D2 ended up being successful, it's still cool to see someone that will do what they say.
