So i know that XB1 has IE and can browse the world wide web, and seeing as the XB1 is a lot like a pc in ways...
What are the chances of browsing the www and getting a virus on your XB1 ?

This risk alone has stopped me from using IE on the XB1 as i simply do not know for sure if the box could get infected nor do i know if theres any kind of antivirus i can install on the XB1.

I have read that IE on the XB1 only supports HTML5 and not Java but i doubt that would stop you from potentially getting a virus.

What does everyone else think about this matter, will we see antivirus for the XB1 in the future ? Is it possible to even get a virus off the WWW on the XB1 ?

I would be very upset if my XB1 got a virus.

Oh yeah, now that you mentioned it... yeah guys, will there be a chance the XB1 can get infected? Not that IE is bad and all but you know, viruses can get clever nowadays. Wouldn't want to see a future Xbox One get infected all of a sudden.

That's a good question lol, I dont ever use IE on my xbox and i probably never will just because i can use my pc which is always right next to my tv on the same desk so..but i am curious to know about this

I don't use the Internet Explorer at all. NEVER. Ever since the early days of XP and Windows 7, I never went back to IE after the bust times I got infected. IE is nothing more than a virus-infested application for me. But then again, I've yet to use IE on XB1 so we'l just wait for the others who have used it.

If Java is disabled, that will eliminate many of the potential hacks. I would guess right now that there are few if any viruses written for the X1. There is always the potential that it happens in the future.

I would hope that the X1 OS is locked down pretty tight (much more so than a PC), but you never know. There's always a chance hackers find a hole.

People have been browsing on the 360 for a while now. I don't recall hearing of any viruses there?

Well for the time being it isn't likely since not many viruses are written for the XB1's OS

What about spyware and such, would a virus made for pc's be able to infect an XB1 because of how the box is so similar to a pc or would a virus have to be written specificly for the XB1 ?

Hmmmm... I'd think it wouldn't have viruses coming in. Well, unless the console is getting dysfunctions in a specific way, there may not be. Then again, I don't use much internet browser on my PS3 so I can't say for sure. But maybe not.

I do not worry about it in the least and just use it if you want.

The browser on the Xbox One actually works really well and with a lot of sites. I used it a bunch of times already.

I would think it would have to be designed specifically for it.

Correct. A virus would have to be specifically written for the X1 OS. Otherwise it simply wouldn't work. That's why you see very few viruses outside of Windows. Hackers go after the big user base where people do online banking and other things. I highly doubt anyone would bother with a console virus, considering that not everyone even has their credit card info on there.
