It's not a flawless package; some of Paradise City's terrain could be easier to navigate with do-it-yourself waypoints, and the inability to restart a race is irritating. However, there's so much to do and wreck that you'll invest tens of hours in single-player before you even tap the d-pad to jump into the online experience. Paradise is undoubtedly the first must-own racing game of 2008.

Criterion has once again delivered a racing experience that can best be described as controlled chaos, one where even crashing is immensely rewarding. If you're even a remote fan of racing games, be sure to check this out.

Burnout Paradise is a great game, but after having played back in the days Burnout 3 on PlayStation 2, Criterion are still yet to beat its ease of use and thrill-style gameplay. Burnout 3 just provided endless hours of entertainment, whereas Burnout Paradise can keep me interested for an hour or two per week, before I get bored and go and play a different game. That said, it is not a bad game, I just which they had built upon how Burnout 3 worked.

Burnout Paradise is a very good racing game with tons of things to do and lots of cars to unlock. For me though the downfall of Paradise is the lack of local multiplayer and the low replay value after you've gotten all the cars. Sure there's lots to do but you're not going to want to. I understand that local splitscreen is difficult in an open world game but they could have created set tracks to race on or something. Either way I think a 3/5 is a fair rating. It's tons of fun in the beginning but quickly gets old. I'd love to see another Burnout though, it's a very good series.
