Introduction

Welcome to the Achievement Guide for Call of Duty 3. This is the first game in the series that was developed by Treyarch and not Infinity Ward, and you can see their inexperience. Call of Duty 3 is a decent game, but you will notice a lot of frustrating bugs throughout the game, which will only make your mission harder.

The game comes with 26 achievements, totaling 1000G. Most of them will be obtained while playing the singleplayer campaign and the last third of them will be obtained in multiplayer. For the SP achievements, you will need to finish the campaign on the highest difficulty setting (Veteran) which is never an easy thing in a Call of Duty game. Besides that there are a few other miscellaneous achievements that you will need to do so make sure you read through the guide before you start the game if you plan on achieving them. There are no missable achievements as you can mission select, but I recommend that you start the campaign on Veteran right away so you won’t have to play through the campaign twice.

Most of the multiplayer achievements are not very hard and can be obtained pretty quickly, except for the leveling up ones. For those, you will need to either boost an inhuman amount of time (over 30 hours) or you could play normally online which will take an ungodly amount of time (over 500 hours). The General achievement, which requires you to reach the maximum level in multiplayer, is one of the most time consuming achievements of ALL Xbox 360 games. I will give you a brief guide to boosting it, but I am warning you that it is not going to be easy at all.

Call of Duty 3 Achievements

01.jpg Basic Training (5G)
Complete the basic training in the beginning of Saint Lo.

You will unlock this achievement by naturally progressing through the game so it cannot be missed. Read the description of ‘Won the War’ for more details.

This is the first mission in the game and it will be presented to you as a tutorial. It will just present you the basics mechanisms of the game and it should be out of your way in no time along with the achievement. This can be obtained on any difficulty setting.

02.jpg American Infantryman (20G)
Complete two missions as an American soldier.

You will unlock this achievement by naturally progressing through the game so it cannot be missed. Read the description of ‘Won the War’ for more details.

You will unlock this achievement after you play 2 missions as an American Soldier. After you played through the tutorial (Saint Lo) and the second mission (The Island, where you still play as an American), this achievement will unlock on whichever difficulty you are playing.

03.jpg British Commando (20G)
Complete two missions as a British soldier.

You will unlock this achievement by naturally progressing through the game so it cannot be missed. Read the description of ‘Won the War’ for more details.

You will unlock this achievement after you play 2 missions as a British soldier. The first two mission where you will play as a Brit will be Mission 3 (Night Drop) and Mission 6 (Fuel Plant), so after you finish the sixth mission this achievement should unlock. This achievement is not affected by the difficulty setting.

04.jpg Canadian Highlander (10G)
Complete two missions as a Canadian soldier.

You will unlock this achievement by naturally progressing through the game so it cannot be missed. Read the description of ‘Won the War’ for more details.

This achievement will unlock straight away after you finish playing 2 missions as a Canadian Soldier. The first two mission where you will play as a Canadian will be Mission 5 (Falaise Road) and Mission 9 (Laison River) and the achievement will unlock when you finish the ninth mission. The difficulty setting does not affect this game.

05.jpg Polish Tanker (15G)
Complete two missions as a Polish soldier.

You will unlock this achievement by naturally progressing through the game so it cannot be missed. Read the description of ‘Won the War’ for more details.

Surprisingly for a World War II game, we get to play as a Polish soldier which does not happen very often. You will need to finish two mission while you play as a Polish soldier and you will do this in Mission 7 (The Black Baron) and Mission 13 (The Mace). The achievement will unlock, no matter what difficulty you are playing on, as soon as you finish the thirteenth mission.

06.jpg Won the War (80G)
Complete the single player campaign on any difficulty setting.

You will unlock this achievement by naturally progressing through the game so it cannot be missed.

This achievement will unlock at the end of the singleplayer campaign. It does not matter what difficulty you are playing on, as long as you see the credits scene, the achievement is yours. There are a total of 14 missions that you will need to complete for this achievement and you can see them below:

  • Mission 1: Saint Lo
  • Mission 2: The Island
  • Mission 3: Night Drop
  • Mission 4: Mayenne Bridge
  • Mission 5: Flasie Road
  • Mission 6: Fuel Plant
  • Mission 7: The Black Baron
  • Mission 8: The Forest
  • Mission 9 : Laison River
  • Mission 10: The Crossroads
  • Mission 11: Hostage
  • Mission 12: The Corridor of Death
  • Mission 13: The Mace
  • Mission 14: Chambois
I would recommend that you start playing on the hardest difficulty (Veteran) to obtain Grizzled Veteran and not have to go through the game twice.

07.jpg Hot Potato (25G)
Pick up and return 5 live grenades.

To unlock this achievement you will need to pick up 5 grenades when they are close to you (a grenade icon will appear on your screen) and throw them away. This needs to be done in one level, so you need to return 5 grenades in the same mission. Luckily, there is a very easy way to do this. You can throw one of your own grenades really close to you and after that, just pick it up and throw it. Do this 4 more times and the achievement is yours. This can be done as soon as you get the grenades in the tutorial mission (Mission 1 - Saint Lo).

08.jpg Rifleman (15G)
Complete a mission by firing only bolt action rifles. Melee attacks don't count.

To unlock this achievement, you will need to only fire a bolt action rifle, like a Kar 98, while playing through a mission. The easiest place to do this is in the third mission (Night Drop) where you will have to kill an enemy right at the beginning and you can take his weapon, which is a Kar 98, a German bolt action rifle. After you get it, make sure you only use that weapon throughout the whole mission. It should not be a problem as enemies will keep dropping ammo for it. You can also use melee, but nothing else.

Doing this will also unlock the Battlefield Scavenger achievement.

09.jpg Assault Trooper (15G)
Complete a mission by firing only assault rifles. Melee attacks don't count.

To unlock this achievement, you will need to only fire an assault rifle (a BAR, Bren or MP44) while playing through a mission. The easiest place to do this is in the second mission (The Island) where you will start right away with a BAR. Try to conserve as much ammo as possible as you will not find a lot of it around and it can get a bit tough at the end of the mission. Try to melee any enemy you see whenever you have the opportunity and only use ammo when necessary. Just make sure you only use that weapon throughout the whole mission and it should not be a problem. You can also use melee, but nothing else.

10.jpg Battlefield Scavenger (15G)
Complete a mission by firing only German weapons. Melee attacks don't count.

To unlock this achievement, you will need to only fire German weapon, like a Kar 98, while playing through a mission.

Doing this will also unlock the Rifleman achievement.

12.jpg Still Ticking (30G)
Complete a mission without dying or using checkpoints.

To unlock this achievement you will have to go through a whole mission without dying or restarting a checkpoint. This will obviously be easier to get if you are playing on Easy (the lowest difficulty). The best time to attempt this is during the first mission (Saint Lo). During this mission, your squad will be very helpful and they will kill most of the enemies for you if you let them so just make sure you stay in cover, get hit as less as possible and shoot only when absolutely necessary. The achievement should pop at the end of the mission and you can also unlock the Allergic to Bullets and Conservationist at the same time if you do it right.

13.jpg Allergic to Bullets (25G)
Avoid getting hit more than 30 times during a mission.

To unlock this achievement you will have to go through a whole mission without getting hit more than 30 times. The achievement should pop at the end of the mission and you can also unlock the Still Ticking and Conservationist at the same time if you do it right.

14.jpg Conservationist (20G)
Complete a mission using less than 300 rounds of ammunition.

To unlock this achievement you will have to go through a whole mission without using more than 300 ammunition rounds. The achievement should pop at the end of the mission and you can also unlock the Allergic to Bullets and Still Ticking at the same time if you do it right.

16.jpg Close Quarter Combatant (100G)
Complete a mission without firing a round. Player can make use of melee attacks and hand grenades.

To unlock this achievement you will have to go through a whole mission without firing a single bullet. You are still allowed to use grenades and melee attacks, but that is it. You should obviously try and obtain this achievement while playing on Easy and probably the easiest missions to try this are the second (The Island) and third (Night Drop) ones. It should not be very difficult as melee attacks are very effective on Easy and they will kill the enemy in one hit. If you have to take out a ranged enemy, use your grenades. Make the best use of your teammates and at the end of the mission the achievement pop right up.

17.jpg Grizzled Veteran (150G)
Complete the Single Player Campaign on Veteran difficulty.

If you play on Veteran, you will unlock this achievement by naturally progressing through the game so it cannot be missed. Read the description of ‘Won the War’ for more details.

This achievement will be unlocked at the end of the last mission if you started the game and played all the missions on Veteran. Make sure you only use ‘Continue’ when resuming a game and keep in mind that this has to be done in one go (e.g. if you go back and redo a mission on Easy for some achievements you will have to replay that mission on Veteran for this achievement to unlock). I would recommend that you start on this difficulty so you do not have to play through the game twice and after that use ‘Mission Select’ to pick up the remaining miscellaneous achievements.

This achievement will be really hard to obtain as the game is not very easy on that difficulty so make sure you are prepared for it if you are going to try and obtain it. It might get very frustrating and it can take a lot of tries to finish just one mission. Here are some things to keep in mind while playing through the game which might help you:

  • The most important thing you have to do to have a chance is always use cover. Without doing this, you won't stand a chance and you will die really quickly. Always keep an eye out for safe cover spots where you can hide if you get hit and if you are close do dying. When your screen is starting to get red, immediately hide behind the first object you see. Some of the hardest missions in the games are the ones where there is very little cover that you can use.
  • Use you grenades effectively. If you see a few enemies grouped together in a small space, that is always a good place to use a frag grenade. Smoke grenades might not seem very helpful but if they are used right they can be incredibly helpful and help you pass some really difficult spots. Make sure you do not waste them because you will not find too many.
  • Reload is important. When you reload, always do it behind cover. Also, make sure your weapon is always full before you get out of cover because storming an enemy position just to notice that your weapon ran out of ammo is incredibly frustrating.
  • Take it easy. There is no rush, so plan your moves carefully and always have a plan before going forward. Make sure you do not find yourself too far ahead of your fellow soldier as this will in most cases be a certain death.
  • Stay calm. I know just how frustrating the game can get, but trying to stay calm and trying again will always work better than getting worked up over it.
  • Change your tactic. If you are really struggling on a certain mission, try a different route or try using a different weapon (or maybe more grenades) until you find a sweet spot and manage to pass that difficult spot.
  • Lastly, have a break. If you are struggling on one mission and you tried all the strategies that you can think of, put the controller down for the day and try again after a good rest. You will be amazed how well this works!

As I said earlier, this will require a lot of persistence on your part so if you want this achievement you cannot give up easily. If you are having problems with a specific spot or want to see an overview of the following mission you can find some detailed walkthroughs HERE

18.jpg Supply Officer (15G)
Supply ammunition to at least 20 friendly soldiers in a single ranked match. (Multiplayer)

To unlock this achievement you will first of all have to be playing in a ranked match. To have the ability to supply a friendly soldier with ammo you will need to play with either the ‘Anti-Tank’ or the ‘Support’ class. You can drop an ammo crate by pressing the Right Bumper (RB) button on your controller. Capture the Flag is one of the best modes to try and do this achievement as there are fixed objectives and your teammates are more likely to run from one to another during a match. Alternatively, you can just follow them around and keep throwing crates until you get the achievement.

19.jpg Doc (30G)
Revive 10 of your teammates in a ranked match without getting a teamkill. (Multiplayer)

This achievement can be obtained while playing a multiplayer ranked match and you will have to revive 10 of your teammates without killing any of your comrades. To have the ability to revive someone you will need to select the ‘Medic’ class and to do so you need to press the RB button when you see someone down. You can follow people around and heal them as soon as they are shot or have a teammate shoot another and just keep reviving him.

20.jpg A War Hero (30G)
Capture the final objective in the game mode War. Must be a ranked match. (Multiplayer)

To unlock this achievement you will need to be playing in a ranked ‘War’ match. To unlock it, you will need to capture the final flag of the game, which is not going to be very easy. Persistence is definitely going to help, but you can also try to just camp near the final flag and take it as soon as you can which will unlock the achievement.

21.jpg Victory Medal (30G)
Be the player with the highest score and on the winning team in a ranked match. (Multiplayer)

To unlock this achievement you will have to play a ranked match and besides winning the game, you will need to be on top of the leaderboard with the most points. You gain points by killing enemies and capturing objectives (such as flags or HQs) and you lose points if you kill a teammate. Unless you are boosting, there is no quick way to unlock this achievement. You will have to play until you are familiar with the game and you found a class that you are comfortable with and it is inevitable that you will finish first in a winning team eventually.

22.jpg Lieutenant (20G)
Receive 200 total points in ranked matches. (Multiplayer)

To unlock this achievement you will need to reach the online rank of Lieutenant, by scoring over 200 points in ranked matches.

If you want to boost this achievement, read more about it in the description of the General achievement.

23.jpg Captain (40G)
Receive 2000 total points in ranked matches. (Multiplayer)

To unlock this achievement you will need to reach the online rank of Captain, by scoring over 2000 points in ranked matches.

If you want to boost this achievement, read more about it in the description of the General achievement.

24.jpg Major (60G)
Receive 8000 total points in ranked matches. (Multiplayer)

To unlock this achievement you will need to reach the online rank of Major, by scoring over 8000 points in ranked matches.

If you want to boost this achievement, read more about it in the description of the General achievement.

25.jpg Colonel (80G)
Receive 20000 total points in ranked matches. (Multiplayer)

To unlock this achievement you will need to reach the online rank of Colonel, by scoring over 20000 points in ranked matches.

If you want to boost this achievement, read more about it in the description of the General achievement.

26.jpg General (120G)
Receive 40000 total points in ranked matches. (Multiplayer)

To unlock this achievement you will need to reach the online rank of General, by scoring over 40000 points in ranked matches. No matter which way you will do this achievement, it will be extremely time consuming. Considering that playing a normal match will earn you around 40 points and you can play around 2 matches an hour, playing the game the normal way will take over 500 hours of continuous play to unlock, which in my opinion is not worth it. You can use the flag boosting method which I will outline below which will earn you between 500 and 1500 points per game, massively reducing the time needed to boost to 20-40 hours, depending on a lot of factors.

To attempt this method you will need to find 7 players that are willing to boost with you. You should all be a in a party chat and at the same time search for a ranked Capture the Flag game. Hopefully, you will all land in the same lobby and hope that no random player joins the game while the countdown is happening. You could try and talk to them to join you or convince them to leave, but this is Xbox Live so you never know what might happen. If you manage to enter a game with no random persons in it, you are good to go. All the members of the team should go near their own flag and sit close to it. After that, one player, who we will call the ‘flag thrower’, from each team has to go to the other team’s camp to throw the flag. The flag thrower has to pick up the flag and throw it at the opposite team in such a way that it will reset automatically. It is crucial that the thrower finds a position that requires him not to move at all when doing this to increase speed so he should be very close to the reset point of the flag. Keep doing this until the match ends. The flag thrower will earn the least amount of points out of everyone so make sure you keep rotating so it is fair to everyone. Once you got the trick, just keep doing this until you reach the 40,000 points needed for this achievement. It will be a very tedious, boring and uneventful ride to unlock this achievement, but that is the only (reasonable) way.

Secret Achievements

27.jpg Purple Heart (5G)
For perseverance despite grievous injuries.

To unlock this achievement you will simply have to die or fail the mission more than 20 times during the course of a single mission. This will not work on the first mission (Saint Lo) and you usually have to go through at least one checkpoint before it starts to count. Other than that, you can be as creative as you want. Simply cooking a grenade until it explodes in your hand will work very well.

If you are going after the Veteran achievement, this achievement will more than likely come by just playing through a mission and trying to finish it so do not worry about it.

28.jpg Big Air (25G)
EXTREME! Found a big jump and caught some air!

To unlock this achievement you will need to drive a vehicle over any improvised jump and just land a massive jump. The earliest where you can get this is during the third mission (Night Drop). Here you will be given the opportunity to drive a ‘Vera’ Jeep two different times. The achievement can be obtained in either. First time, you will find yourself driving down a road with a lot of enemies and when a tank appears in front of you and forces you to go through the forest; you will eventually reach a barn and after you crash through the game keep an eye on the right for a wooden ramp. If you manage to drive over it with enough speed, the achievement will unlock when you land. If you miss it, you can unlock it in the second driving section, when you are in the train station. If you drive along the tracks, you will see another ramp that you can use so make sure you jump over that one.

END OF GUIDE

Those are all the achievements that Call of Duty 3 has. If you managed to achieve them all or are planning to, congratulations! I do not think a lot of people will go for the multiplayer rank achievements, but other than that all of them are very manageable and none of them should pose any real problems (except for the Veteran achievement, but that is more of a persistence problem). Make sure you read through the guide before starting the game and you should be set to go.

As always, if you have any suggestions, feedback or constructive criticism, I am looking forward to hear from you either by posting in this thread or by sending me a private message. Also, if you have any problems or want more specific details about a certain achievement, let me know and I will try and help you as much as I can.

Thank You & Enjoy Your Game!
