Xbox 360 Can you concentrate on the game full time?

I've noticed that if I start playing and the TV is on in the other room I tend to try and concentrate both ways, which is impossible. Are you able to really concentrate on what you are playing if there are distractions around you?

I also get easily distracted. But that really depends on the game. If it is an RPG or an action adventure game which has a lot of dialogue like Metal Gear 4, then I would really get distracted. But if it were a versus game like Tekken Tag Tournament 2, I wouldn't mind if I can't hear what the characters are saying or what music is playing in the background.
