Global Offensive is definitely a Counter-Strike sequel -- it looks and feels familiar, with minor tweaks here and there to help balance old issues and surprise longtime players. This is a demanding, skill-based multiplayer game that's as satisfying now as it ever was, but it's for a specific kind of player.

As a downloadable title, Global Offensive offers a tried-and-true experience at a reasonable price, even if its gameplay isn’t for everyone. If you prefer working with others and attacking the opposing team with well thought-out tactics instead of brute force, you should find plenty to like in this updated release.

Global Offensive’s slippery Left for Dead–style movement and lack of iron-sight targeting will surely elicit some gripes. And while you can practice offline against bots, the absence of split-screen multiplayer is baffling given the outdated graphics. But Counter-Strike's latest reissue packs just enough new content to keep its legacy alive for another year or two.
