The game's also surprisingly scary at times: in dark spaces, we found ourselves flinching at disembodied moans, and being rushed by Infested (fast, growling zombies reminiscent of 28 Days Later) freaked us out more than once. Dead Island isn't the best vacation ever, but it does offer lots of entertaining activities.

Still, presentation doesn't make a game, experiences do. And they are packed into Dead Island.

Unfortunately their goal of creating an epic, apocalyptic first-person zombie survival game ends up cracking under the weight of their own ambition. A smaller scale and some more time in development and Dead Island could have been the zombie game we’ve always wanted.

Dead Island was one of those games that many people played, but not enough people played it. This was a great example of how a open world zombie game should work. Sure, there were some flaws. I think Deep Silver is working to fix this in Riptide.
