What is the easiest way to defeat a tank in Left 4 Dead 2? I've tried to beat tanks plenty of times, but I always have a lot of trouble with it. If there's an easier way, I'd really like to know how!

Keep that sucker on fire. So use those Molotovs, when its distracted get in their and shoot it up with some cheap shots. Unless your playing on expert, then lighting it on fire is bad.

yea when a tank gets lit it actually gets faster so solo it's usually not a good idea unless you can make it climb things (not sure if he does it faster...) basically the best advice I have is to keep him at a distance as his rocks are rather easy to doge and just always keep him in your sights....multiplayer wise though just have any other team mate agro him, it's their problem now :p

RUN AND GUN. It's easiest to throw either a molotov cocktail or bile bomb at the tank first. This allows extra damage to be dealt to the Tank while you and the rest of your team run. Run backwards while emptying clip after clip into the Tank. The Tank is relatively slow at turning on a dime, so try circling him over and over again. Try to get him to follow one exact member of your group. The rest of your team follows both of you emptying all clips.

Tanks have a couple of moves that you need to avoid. Its the other zombies around you that's going to be a problem.

To go with the crowd on this, a molotov is necessary but it won't cause a large amount of damage, it'll zap small bits of health over time little by little. On Normal a tank can survive at least one Molotov. If you have a shotgun you're going to have to be slightly closer to get the full effect of damage. You'll be able to give it more damage, but you'll also be within range of the Tank itself. If you don't have a shot gun then distance is your friend. You'll still have the damage deterioration of being far away but you'll also be safer.

The tank has three attacks that you'll have to avoid or deal with most often. He'll swipe at you. Often times this means he'll close the distance between you and him. He'll swipe at you as he's mid run to you. Its hard to time but you can almost bate him into attacking you. I'll say that its kind of dumb to try this without a shot gun (tactical is one of my faves for this) because he'll likely hit you and then get another hit on you after that.

The second attack is his distance attack where he tosses a rock at you. This is easier to avoid, but if you get hit he'll be able to close distance and hit you.

If a survivor is downed, the Tank will essentially pummel the survivor until their death. This is a good chance for teammates to kill the tank, but on a difficulty more than normal I'd say that the survivor is probably going to die.

Keep your distance and use the terrain to your advantage, but there's still times when a Tank shows up and destroys my team and I and we've been fighting the Tanks since the very beginning.

This is the most thorough post yet, and I concur with everything within. If you're the one with the tank aggro, always try to look for an area where you can escape if gets too close, because he'll often have to take the long route to catch up to you.

I forgot one of my favorite things to do to Tanks that never works! Use a bile bomb on that guy and let the infected do your dirty work for you. This won't do very much unless you're around a lot of infected people. Then you have to do deal with the fact that they will still be alive after the Tank is down. What I've done in the past is have one of my teammates setup with a molotov and another with a bile. Hit the bile, let the infected hit. This is not pop shot the infected time, they are fighting the tank, stop hitting them with your guns...

Anyway, Tank takes damage, if he stops being purple, toss that molotov and unload on everything. Good times, dead Tank.
