Xbox One Destiny beta due in 'summer' 2014

Bungie will commence the much anticipated Destiny beta this Summer, said Activision Publishing president and CEO Eric Hirshberg during an Activision Blizzard earnings call Thursday. The Destiny beta will be available first to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 owners, Bungie confirmed in November 2013.

Access codes for the beta are being sent to customers that pre-order the game at "participating retailers worldwide". In the US, these retailers include Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart. In UK, the list includes Amazon, Smyths, Tesco and Blockbuster.

I'm very excited for this game; being a huge Borderlands fan this is definitely a game I can see spending lots of time with. I'm most excited for the "Public Events" feature, which has only briefly been explained and showed off. I'm happy to see developers take advantage of beta offerings since they are working with new hardware; hopefully this will be a great beta to play! Will you guys be preordering for the beta? This was announced way back at the PS4 reveal and again during E3. Should be no surprise. Besides they are no longer obligated to MSFT and have a timed exclusive deal with Sony. Its the same with Insomniac Games who were always associated with Sony, but are now making a Xbox exclusive.

I have no qualms if they release it first on PS4 since I have PS4. haha. Makes PS4 users lucky. I'm really glad that they are finally releasing it.

haha, yeah, lucky us. I need to get this game, any idea how much would it be? And will it be available on digital?
 
Not really worried about a beta, what I do care is when is the release date for the game? Seems like not much has been revealed other than the footage from last year. It's similar to Borderlands from what I've seen so I think it's a good thing, at least we know what to expect.

Bungie has confirmed that Destiny will be released on September 9, 2014.

E3 2013, they announced that PS4 was getting the beta first. And for the record, they were an Xbox company making Halo but once they were done with Halo, they decided, "yo, we not making Halo no more so let's go multi-platform bros!" (the quote is not true, BTW. Been listening to so much Cypress Hill and Wu-Tang Clan XD). So yes, Bungie is free to do as they please now that Halo is not in their development schedule. As for the beta, awesome!

Ever since they were done with making Halo games, they've already had the freedom to their own stuff now. Insomniac was believed to be a PlayStation Company before but now, they're making an Xbox exclusive. Prior to that, they made their first multiplatform game called FUSE.

Same here. I cannot wait for this. Hope it's not too big for me download though. I gotta get an ethernet cable to improve my download speed.

I know right? Good thing no one gave in to microsoft's offer to ditch PS3 just to get Xbox One.

Wahahaha. Exactly. While some of us don't have the PS4 yet, at least the PS3 beta is coming along! This is going to be good.
