All,
Sorry this posting is a bit dated, but I wanted to share my XB1 "day one" experience. I decided to pre-order the system from Walmart. Just as a friendly heads-up, they are a major cluster-f%$#! However, this story does end on a good note... Somewhat.
The day of the Xbox One's release (11/22/13), I called Walmart inquiring about a midnight release. Since this store wasn't a 24 hour location, I wasn't hopeful for getting my system at 12:01 am. It's not surprising but still boggles my mind how you can ask 5 different employees and you'll receive 5 different answers. When I called, the person I spoke to said they weren't doing a midnight sale, but to come at 7 am on the 22nd. I didn't fully believe this since a week prior, I practically paid off my system and the layaway department ensured me the midnight sale was happening on the 22nd. However, dealing with Walmart, I didn't wanna take the drive from Philly to that store if it wasn't happening. Despite hearing this, I still decided to go. I immediately go to the layaway department and there isn't any employees there. Not feeling the warm and fuzzy's I ask an employee near this department and they tell me the system is being released on Black Friday! I'm like, WTF??? Come on, really??? How is it that Walmart doesn't instruct their employees on important sales? After hearing this, I decide to go to the electronics department.
I ask a woman who seems as if she knows her stuff and she says that the sale is definitely happening at midnight and to be back around 11pm. So, I leave for a bit and come back. There is only one other person waiting to get an XB1 and he had the same exact thing happen to him. We both guessed that the line wasn't long since most who pre-ordered probably didn't know it was being sold at 12:01am!
Midnight hits and we are able to get the game system. I'm prepared to pay off the system and also submit my "pre-order" card (5 dollar card - give you "VUDU" credit). The salesperson tells me they locked up the games and she doesn't have the keys. WTFF??? Are you kidding me??? Needless to say, I had to return to this stupid store the next day to get my copy of Dead Rising 3.
Well, I get to Walmart (again) and I ask an employee in the electronic department for my copy of DR3. She looks around and goes back into the storage room but doesn't see the game. At this point, I'm ready to explode! I keep my calm and tell her that if they cannot find my pre-ordered game, to simply refund my deposit so I can go to a "real" store. The electronics manager comes over and he attempts to look for the game as well. Neither can find it. He "the manager" didn't even know about the game. I tell him, forget it... Just refund my money. We both go to the customer service department to do so. While waiting, he gets a call from electronics telling him they found the game. By this time, I'm shaking my head... So wanted to cancel, but I really wanted to get home and game. Well, he "attempts" to ring me out, and in the process give me a discount for my troubles. Keep in mind, I've been in this stupid store for about an hour. He has problems redeeming the card and giving a discount. 4 people come over including another manager and none know how to do this! Finally, it works and he gives me 15.00 off the game and a 25 GC for my time and trouble. So, needless to say, it was a MAJOR headache getting my Xbox One and game but ultimately, I kinda scored. Unfortunately, the gc was a Walmart one, which means I'll have to go back to another Walmart. However, I can use it for future games... Albeit, at a different location...
Anyone else have any interesting stories about their purchase?
