I've heard some people say that the Xbox 360 and PC versions of Minecraft are significantly different. What are the differences? What are some things that are on the PC version that you wish were on the Xbox 360 version?

I've never played the PC version, so I don't really know what the differences are. I think I read somewhere that you can download patches for the PC version, or mods, or something like that, but you can't do that with the Xbox version.

Well for one, the xbox version of Minecraft has been getting a ton of support that the original PC version hasn't been getting. Like all those updates and dlc the xbox version keeps getting, the PC version has yet to get any of that.

What kinds of downloadable content have come out for the Xbox version of Minecraft? How much do they cost? What kind of functionality do they add to the game?

That's just because the 360 gets the snapshot updates immediately, while on the PC they are optional until the next big update comes. The PC still has access to that content, as the PC version is what everything is built for first.

One of the biggest differences with the 360 version is that it has a limit to how big the map can be, while the PC version generates unlimitedly unless specified not to by the player. The 360 version also does not have access to mods and plugins like FTB, Tekkit, CTF, Hunger Games, LWC, Towny, Essentials etc.

If all you want to play is vanilla MC, get the 360 version. If you want a more expanded and full Minecraft experience, get the PC version.

The 360 version seems to be very lacking in comparison to the PC version...

Can you build portals to the nether on Xbox? I tried following instructions online but couldn't get it to work

I only play the Xbox version and while the updates are frequent, they can be annoying. Sometimes I just want to hop on and play quickly, but can't because I have to download the update first. I have also seen youtube videos of the PC version and you can build a lot faster with those mods. So jealous!

Well the computer version is certainly more excelled. People are able to use Java to make mods to make single player better. They can also make plugins (mods for servers). I feel that the computer is better mostly because of servers. Their are server that are unique like "Mine of Duty" and other things. Minecraft can be converted into different things if you are a good enough coder, yet people that play Xbox don't know that. Most of them think of it as a very simple survival server. I have a 15 player average on my Minecraft server I have for the Computer. It's really fun to talk to people and have them all know you.

A lot of people says that Minecraft on PC is much more better than on Xbox.

Well it's mostly because what you can do with the computer. There is more acess to mods, servers, etc. It is like how it's easier to record on the computer because you can just get a simple screen recorder, yet on,Xbox you need to get an expensive HDpvr if you want good quality. Computer has been here longer and has more options.

Minecraft came out on the computer first so it is more up to date than its xbox counterpart. On top of that the computer version is also more customizable. There are thousands of different skins to chose from for your character and many different texture packs for you to try out.

The server sizes are bigger, there are more tools you can make and most importantly there are a lot more blocks you can place in the world. Again this is only because Minecraft came out on pc first and is updated quicker, but I think the xbox version will catch up eventually. Mods are nice but they make the game a different animal.
