Think digital prices have bumped down? Nope, they've bumped up!

Over in UK, digital prices for some Xbox One exclusives like Dead Rising 3 and Ryse have increased, going up £5, making it £49.99 instead of £44.99, as reported by Gamespot.

Microsoft confirmed the change in pricing to GameSpot. "Yes, pricing for select digital content in some markets has changed since launch," said a company spokesperson.

"Digital content pricing is subject to change and we may occasionally offer various deals or promotions. Ultimately pricing and promotions will vary by region."

My thoughts? A number of factors can be considered: maybe there's a high demand for the games, or there might be consideration to sell it at higher prices to keep up with the costs in some varying parts and more. But I am a bit surprised that prices have bumped up for the games. I've yet to see something like this happen in other services around the world.

What do you think guys? Are you surprised with these price increases? Not happy with it? Or is this just temporary?

This might just be temporary. Eventually, the prices will go down. Maybe it's just that the demand is high for the games, so Microsoft had to raise it up to keep up. Or I don't know, maybe they got their reasons for this. Either way, I think it's temporary. It'll go down eventually.

I'm surprised. This has never happened before in the digital market. Raising prices? That's like the economic principle of supply and demand. But how did that happen with digital pricing? It's supposed to only happen with retail prices. That's surprising and interesting. I'm wondering how it'll affect the other markets.

Temporary. This doesn't look to be a permanent thing. There might be factors we're not aware of that might've contributed to the price change. Either way, it's temporary for me. We'll see in the months to come. If this kind of thing happens in other markets, there's something definitely going on.

I would hope that it's a temporary thing. Like Kindle books, et. al., I think that there should be a small discount for digital only items since they are saving money on the printing and manufacturing of the disc and case.

Exactly. This one surprises me. How did digital pricing go up? I always though that since you buy a game digitally, it's cheaper. Okay, some games are priced similarly to the retail price, but still, I've always assumed that digital items' prices never go up. This one, though, is surprising. Yup, hope it's temporary.

I know right? It's really surprising. This is one of those things that just can't happen all the time. It can't happen all the time. I really hope, like you, that it's temporary. I see that happen somewhere else, then it's doom!

There might be some reason we're not even aware of in the overseas sales numbers.

You make a point. Still, quite a first for me to hear that the digital prices would go up that much. Well, guess there's still many factors why this happened. Hopefully it'll be temporary. But so far, other markets haven;t shown price increase like this.

Well, at least in the meantime, digital sellers like Steam, PSN and Gamefly haven't put a rise in the price. And it's only happened in UK right? So I'm hopeful this is just a temporary thing, not something that'll happen all of a sudden everywhere.

Well I just hope it doesn't happen here. That would be one hell of a bummer. Well I don't mind if prices go up but if there's a new game out I hope they could lower down the price right away.

I just don't like the idea of pricing in digital going up. I mean, it's digital. It's not exactly physical, where you have to produce a new set when they sell out. The only thing that could probably make those digital prices go up is the cost in servers. Maybe that's it.

You make a point. Could be server costs in the UK. Well, I just hope it's temporary. Hate to want to buy a game and find out the price went up all of a sudden. That would suck for me.

I can see this being temporary too. But who knows? The world surprises us every now and then. I mean, who saw the economy in the US crash last 2008? Well, if you were watching the market, you might but still, that shocked many. So in the case of this digital pricing thing in the UK, we'll have to keep a close eye.

I hope that this is temporary. Well who knows after a month or so we would see changes on the market.

Yeah it is probably temporary since they won't get much on sales if this keeps up.

Somebody on the forums have already asked why the digital pricing is higher than the retail pricing. So it just indicates the digital pricing hasn't gone down yet since the adjustment. Let's see in a few weeks, hopefully it'll go down.

Really? I guess some of the UK gamers aren't too happy about this price hike then. Now we'll see how other UK gamers will react. i'm curious about this.
