Does anyone out there still trade in their games?

WHY????

I think trading in your games in the biggest waste of money ever! You can get more for them on craig's list or ebay first off! It's super lame to spend $60 on a game to get $20 back a week later! What a rip off!

Nope. I know people says that it helps offset costs of new games, but I don't see much of a difference and I don't see how it's fun to rush through a game in less than a week. Now, that's a waste of $60. You might as well wait for the price drop if you can't get anymore enjoyment or time out of them.

My brother does, or rather used to. He decided it wasn't worth it anymore.

That's good to hear! I could never get with the trade in your games things. I even managed Gamestops for three years and was forced to tell customers to bring in their trades and every time it just killed me. They would loose so much money trading stuff in! I'd feel so bad too, but I mean it was my job and it paid my bills so I really didn't have a choice but to do what I was I told. I did however every now and then offer customers more money then Gamestop would and buy things I wanted myself. I'd get some pretty nice and rare games that way back in the day, got my second PS3 that way for a steal too!

I don't. Even if a game is bad it's usually worth playing . I have pretty good taste in video games but even the duds are entertaining. I may never replay them but they'll just be part of my collection. I have no problems with that especially when you don't even get half of what you bought the game for originally.

I don't even bother trading in games or buying used games. I usually never buy games when they first come out. I wait for a Christmas sale or just a normal sale in general to buy my games. And even then, if the game sucks, I keep my game as a sort of a collection counter, adding one to each game that I buy. Unless of course, a friend of mine wants to buy the game from me, then I would usually sell it to them. I think trading with friends is worth more value than trading into game stores; you're trading with a friend you know, and you can negotiate for a higher price than game stores would offer.

It seems like a good idea, but it's really not. A lot of video game stores underpay when they buy back your games. Then they sell them off with huge margins. I wanted to sell a couple of my games since I never played them, but they offered me so little it was basically like giving them the game for free.

I trade in games all the time. Even though I realize I'm taking a financial hit, it allows me to purchase new games during those times when my money's tight. I have tried Craigslist to sell a couple games before, but quickly found out most people will low ball you below what Gamestop will give you. Even though I quoted the price as "FIRM", that didn't stop the emails from people giving me a sob story. It just wound up not being worth my time.

Trading isn't everyone's thing. But for me it works just fine for what I want. :)

I like to get the used games at GameStop sometimes but I think it's not worth the hassle of trading our old ones in.

I don't trade in. Most of the time I usually keep my games. Even if they have been outdated by a new version or on a different system, I will still keep them. I like to keep old systems and games so that I can revisit from time to time. Extra consoles can be put in bedrooms for playing if I don't keep it in the main gaming area.

If I do decide I don't want a console/game I will give it to one of my family members for the kids the play when they go over to visit. Like when my son goes to visit his grandma, she has a Wii that I gave her and a couple of games. I have my second Wii (it came with the spouse) at my house. This way my son won't get bored if she doesn't feel like playing or reading with him.

No I don't trade in games.
I think it is a waste. Shops like Gamestop are just ripping of people by giving them way too little for the games.

Generally, no, but I will on the rare occasion. I try not buy games that I know I won't touch after completing unless they are dirt cheap. When I do trade them in, I'm not interested in trying to get the very best price I can out of them, because in nearly every case for me, they were old games that I wouldn't even get $20 bucks on ebay with, so I'll take a measly 5 bucks from Gamestop just to get it off my shelf. Again, this is rare for me, but it doesn't feel like a ripoff when it saves me time and relieves me of a mediocre game that might as well be a mini Frisbee.

I do not condone selling relatively new games to Gamestop, even if they're horrible. In that case, you might want to sell it elsewhere.

Definitely, even if you buy a game for $20, it's still money that you spend and for something that might get more valuable over time, not only monetary, but also sentimental. And i like my collection too much to just sell it out.

Honestly I do - it just isn't a regular thing so much as a periodic thing. Every now and again I find that I have far more games then space and I haven't played most of them in a dog's age and probably never will again. I don't bother with eBay because I have Paypal and well... no. I will never use Craigslist because not only can you not trust half the folks on there, but I just really don't want to end up dead in a ditch over a video game. I know folks are all about hating GameStop, but if you need money right then or you're Pro then whatever.

There isn't enough value in trading games in. I would rather just keep the game to add to a library. Some day a collection like that would be valuable, or at the very least, worth more than what Gamestop would give you.

360 games are the only ones I seem to trade in. They just don't have a shelf life like Nintendo games, which I never trade in. I'll be playing different Mario Kart titles forever, but the vast majority of 360 games? I just want some extra cash for them.

I see what you mean - but honestly I feel like that about most games. The greater majority of games are okay, but not worth keeping about taking up space. I have a few that I retain in a personal library, but otherwise why wouldn't I trade them in toward getting something newer and shinier and of actual interest?
