You can download the day 1 patch now and supposedly load it on a flash drive. Might be a good idea in case Live is really slow on launch day. The only catch is there are two different files, and we have no idea which one we need until we get the console. They are 1.24gb each. I'm downloading both now just in case. You'd think MS's cloud would be able to handle launch day just fine, but this might get you up and gaming faster.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I've been wondering about this.

IMO I think Xbox Live infrastructure is strong and solid. I really don't think we will have that much of a headache!

Live is usually very solid, but you never know. I don't plan on updating this way, but in the event that something does happen, a plan B is never a bad idea. I know I downloaded the files "just in case". I don't plan on using them, but I feel better having them.

Neither will download for me.

I guess by the time the updates will start, Microsoft got the servers running as clockwork. The drop down in speed might be an issue, giving all the numbers of connections per second. But I don't think the server will fall or anything. They must have thought of it beforehand

i managed to dl them but theyre 1.21kb apprx. each ... lol are they not supposed to be like 1.2gb as the OT says ?

EDIT: yeah the zip files i dl wont even open so im guessing they are supposed to be like 1.2gb. Any idea why when i dl them they were 1.21kb or so ?!

The site is not working, they removed the files.

From MS:

The site was not an alternative way to take the Day One update and customers still need to connect to Xbox Live for the update.
Because of the complexity of this customer support process we’ve actually removed the page and we will work with customers
directly to make sure they have a smooth experience.

U wouldnt even be able to download the update on USB...u need the OS number. But im sure LIVE will be fine.

The idea is nice for those who just can't wait. But it still adds a percentage of failure, since someone could get it all messed up and blame Microsoft. I guess it's easier for them to make the update fully automated, so that there won't be any errors encountered.

Honestly, I don't think it's a good idea. People tend to make problems, files can have errors etc. its better to make it all official and automatic. I am sure the servers will cope, after all that's what they were designed for , right?

There only two different OS numbers. Just download both to you PC and if the servers crash you can still find you OS in the settings and put the correct version on a USB.

Well, even if it is as simple as that, i think there will be like thousands of request to the Q&A about that. In my opinion, it would be better to leave the online update only. less hassle, more reliability and noob friendliness. But the idea is nice, being able to update offline is always a plus

It really is that simple. I received an Ambassador email last night. I'm currently on the Xbox site answering people's questions.
