Thought I would post as been googling and not finding anything with the whole issue/what caused it.
Basically my son had a wired controller into the back of his xbox and managed to pull the console down, since he's done that, the xbox will turn on and appears usable, however when starting a game, regardless if from disc or from hard drive, it will turn itself off and he has to disconnect everything and reconnect to be able to turn it on, as a first thought I had guessed maybe overheating, but he has told me the fan still works.
Hope you guys/girls have some ideas on this, I don't live near enough to be able to help with opening up etc for him to try fix, but if some other ideas external(not a clue what) ideas that he could try would be greatful.
