Hey everybody,

I was wondering if someone could tell me what I can do with my external hard drive connected to the xbox one in simple terms. I have read so much about the new update that came in but I am baffled by all the technical talk. I have realised that I need a USB 3.0 to connect (which I am going to buy) , but will it allow me to play my recorded family movies from my old mobile phone through it like the 360 did? The files are mk4 and avi?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Danny

I haven't tried using an external hdd yet but I'm under the impression that it does whatever the internal hdd does. It would be pretty stupid if we're not allowed to do some things with the external, maybe if it has anything to do with copyrighted materials but I'm sure you can use it for personal contents. I think the X1 plays mp4 only.

Thanks for the replies. I am aware of how to connect the hard drive up, no problem. Its just the worry of how far this copyright thing goes that heavensdevil mentions. On the 360, I had my entire dvd collection backed up and photo albums stored on the external for easy watching. The 360 allowed this to happen off the bat. I am worried that I may go and pay 50 quid for a 3.0 hard drive, put my dvd collection back on and the xbox one, due to piracy issues, will not let me play them. I guess it is just going to have to be a gamble :(
