Achievement Guide

Final Fantasy XIII is the thirteenth non-sequel installment in the Final Fantasy series by Square Enix. Released on March 3, 2010, Final Fantasy XIII follows Lightning and her companions on a quest to save Cocoon from destruction. The party travels through the futuristic cities of Cocoon and the lands of Pulse that have been overrun by nature and wild, dangerous creatures.

Final Fantasy XIII contains 35 achievements. While about half of the achievements are fairly straightforward story objectives, the game does include quite a few that will take dedication and patience to obtain. While the main story will only take about 40 hours to complete, expect to invest upwards of 100 hours to finish all of the extra content and earn every achievement.

One thing before you begin earning achievements: please note that there is one achievement that you can miss in the game: Treasure Hunter. I highly suggest that you scroll down to that achievement first so that you can read through it before continuing.

While I've attempted to create this guide with no spoilers, some are still present by necessity. There are no story spoilers, but there are some for item names and enemy types.

Pulsian Pioneer.jpg
Pulsian Pioneer (15G)
Took over 10,000 steps on the lowerworld surface.
You will get this while working your way through the Cie’th Stone side quest, as the series requires you to run all over Pulse. Once you’ve taken the 10,000 steps you’ll need to repair Bhakti the robot in Oerba if you haven’t already. Speak to the robot and the achievement is yours.
If you have not repaired Bhakti yet, here are the steps:
  • In the center of Oerba go up the staircase next to the dumpster filled with sand. You will find an abandoned bedroom with a small, broken robot. Examine the robot to begin the mini side quest.
  • You must now find the parts of the robot around Oerba.
    • Battery Pack: upper room of the house next to Bhakti’s house, past the Vetala enemy.
    • Power Cable: in the cart next to the turbine in the square outside the house.
    • Trochoid Gear: dropped by Vampires, an enemy type common to the Oerba area.
    • Aspheric Lens: inside the Deserted Schoolhouse.
    • Metal Plate: just after the Derelict Depot on the Rust-Eaten Bridge.
Once you have all the parts you can return to Bhakti, fix him up, and the achievement is yours!

Gysahl Wreath.jpg
Gysahl Wreath (15G)
Discovered buried treasure with a little help from a chocobo.
After completing Cie’th Stone Mission 14 you’ll be able to ride chocobos throughout the Archylte Steppe. While riding one of these birds, the chocobo’s head will point toward the closest treasure. As you get close to one a bubble with “!” will appear over the chocobo’s head. Keep moving in the direction the chocobo’s head is pointing to and a prompt will pop up on the screen. Activate the location and you’ll receive an item. Do this 20 times to receive a Ribbon and the achievement is yours!

Kelger's Cup.jpg
Kelger’s Cup (15G)
Completed all low-level Cie’th Stone missions.
Since Cie’th Stones are well documented elsewhere on the net, complete with maps and other info, I’m going to refer you to one of those. One of the best guides can be found on GamesRadar.
You will need to complete all the Class D Cie’th Stone Missions. These include Missions 1-5. Complete all 5 missions and the achievement is yours.

Xezat's Chalice.jpg
Xezat’s Chalice (15G)
Completed all mid-level Cie’th Stone missions.
You will need to complete all the Class C Cie’th Stone Missions. These include Missions 6-15, 18-22, 28, 35-37, 39, and 56-58. Complete the missions and the achievement is yours. (See the link in Kelger’s Cup for detailed guides).

Exorcist.jpg
Exorcist (30G)
Triumphed over undying lowerworld souls in seven fierce battles.
Complete the following Cie’th Stone Missions:

  • Mission 7: Bituitus, The Pillager
  • Mission 12: Geiseric, The Profane
  • Mission 27: Mithridates, The Lone
  • Mission 30: Syphax, The Insidious
  • Mission 34: Zenobia, The Butcher
  • Mission 51: Attacus, The Soulless
  • Mission 64: The Doomherald
Complete all seven missions and the achievement is yours.

Floraphobe.jpg
Floraphobe (30G)
Toppled a green terror and cut an oversized succulent down to size.
Complete Cie’th Stone Mission 54.
This Mission can be obtained at the Northern Highplain area of the Archylte Steppe. The mark itself can be found in the Eastern Tors area of the Archylte Steppe and can only be reached by chocobo. The mark itself is a Gigantuar, and is a challenging foe.
The easiest way to defeat it is to ensure that your entire party has a minimum of 15,000 health (over 20,000 health for the Sentinels). Set Sazh as the party leader. His main role will be as a Ravager. Once the battle starts, buff everyone and then switch Sazh to Ravager. Continuously attack with Flamestrike/Fire/Flamestrike/Fire/Flamestrike/Fire. This will cause Sazh to take a step backward with each attack, which means that he will eventually be out of the range of the Gigantuar’s attacks. Summon your Eidolon if you run into trouble, otherwise continue to whittle away at the Gigantuar’s health, switching to MED/MED/SEN whenever your party falls low on health.
It will take some time, and possibly a couple of attempts, but once you defeat the Gigantuar the achievement is yours.

Natural Selector.jpg
Natural Selector (30G)
Passed Titan’s Trials.
The Titan’s Trials are a series of Cie’th Stone missions found in the Faultwarrens, including missions 35-51. Complete any route through the Faultwarrens and the achievement is yours.

Dorgann’s Trophy (30G)
Completed all high-level Cie’th Stone missions.
You will need to complete all the Class B Cie’th Stone Missions. These include Missions 16-17, 23-27, 29-34, 38, 40, 42-43, 47, 50, and 54. Complete the missions and the achievement is yours. (See the link in Kelger’s Cup for detailed guides).

Galuf's Grail.jpg
Galuf’s Grail (30G)
Completed all Cie’th Stone missions.
You will need to complete all the Cie’th Stone Missions, including the Class A missions. Class A missions include Missions 41, 44-46, 48-49, 51-53, 55, and 59-64. Complete the missions and the achievement is yours. (See the link in Kelger’s Cup for detailed guides).

L'Cie Paragon.jpg
L’Cie Paragon (80G)
Earned a 5-star ranking for all Cie’th Stone missions.
This is best done after you’ve completed all of the missions once rather than before. The final mission grants a Gold Watch that makes a 5 star rank easier. Ensure that your party has progressed nearly all the way through the Crystarium and that their equipment is well developed. If you struggle to achieve a 5 star rank in the earlier missions, it likely means that your equipment is too good. Try equipping some lesser weapons and accessories and try again. You can check your progress in the Map menu. Once you’ve gotten a 5 star rank on all 64 mark missions the achievement is yours!

Commando's Seal.jpg
Commando’s Seal (15G)
Mastered the Commando role.
This achievement cannot be earned until after you’ve completed the main story. You will need to purchase every node in the Crystarium for the Commando role to earn this achievement. For helpful hints, see Master’s Seal below.

Sentinel's Seal.jpg

Mastered the Sentinel role.
This achievement cannot be earned until after you’ve completed the main story. You will need to purchase every node in the Crystarium for the Sentinel role to earn this achievement. For helpful hints, see Master’s Seal below.

Sabateur's Seal.jpg
Saboteur’s Seal (15G)
Mastered the Saboteur role.

Master's Seal.jpg
Master’s Seal (30G)
Fully developed all characters.
This achievement cannot be earned until after you’ve completed the main story. You will need to purchase every node in the Crystarium for every role on every character to earn this achievement.
The Growth Egg accessory will be a tremendous help in achieving this. You can obtain the Growth Egg by completing Cie’th Stone Mission 55. You can complete this mission before you complete the game, but it will be much easier after the final mission. The minimum requirements to unlock Mission 55 are:
  • Complete Chapter 10
  • Unlock chocobos on the Archylte Steppe (complete Missions 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 12, 13, and 14)
Accept Mission 55 from the stone on the Deserted Schoolhouse’s roof in Oerba. The mark is then found in the Aggra’s Pasture section of the Archylte Steppe. The mark is a Neochu accompanied by 5 Picochu. The battle is extremely difficult in a straight fight, but the Neochu can be killed with Vanille’s Death skill. Make sure to have a decent party set-up regardless of the method you take, as the Picochus can easily tear even a moderately developed party apart if you’re not careful. Complete the battle and the Growth Egg is yours.
Getting the Growth Egg is the easy part of this achievement, however. Once equipped you’ll get double the CP from every battle you fight. Now it’s just a matter of earning enough CP to max out every role on the Crystarium for every character. Most likely you will get this achievement before you get Treasure Hunter, so I suggest holding off on grinding CP until after you’ve completed that trophy. Treasure Hunter requires you to grind massive amounts of gil, which will also mean massive amount of CP.
In any case, once you’ve maxed out the Crystarium for every character the achievement is yours.

Limit Breaker.jpg
Limit Breaker (30G)
Dealt 100,000+ damage with a single attack.
There are two options for getting this achievement: the character method and the Eidolon method. The best way to do this as a character is to use Fang, equipped with a Genji Glove, three maxed out Kaiser Knuckles, and a weapon with an extremely high strength stat. Find an enemy that you can easily stagger. Run the chain gauge up to 999% and unleash her Highwind attack.
The other, easier option, is to use Fang’s Eidolon, Bahamut. Work the chain gauge up as high as you can and then unleash Bahamut’s level 3 Megaflare from Gestalt Mode.
Deal over 100,000 damage using either method and the achievement is yours.

Adamant Will.jpg
Adamant Will (30G)
Felled a heavyweight of the lowerworld wilds.
You will need to complete Mission 51 before you can get this achievement. You will now need to attack one of the Long Gui enemies in the Archylte Steppe. You cannot get a preemptive strike on the Long Gui, but you can load up on shrouds before you initiate the battle. You’ll want the following paradigm deck set up for the battle:
  • SAB/SAB/SAB
  • RAV/RAV/COM
  • SEN/SEN/SEN
  • SYN/SYN/SYN
  • MED/MED/MED
The battle is tough, but not overly complicated. Use the SABs to debuff the Long Gui’s legs, then switch to RAV/RAV/COM to knock the Gui down. Use the SABs to debuff the enemy again if needed, then deal as much damage as you can as quickly as you can. Just before the stagger ends switch to the SENs to soak up the damage the Long Gui will inflict, heal with the MEDs, refresh your buffs with the SYNs, then repeat. If you run into trouble, summon your Eidolon. If you run into trouble again and you’re close to defeating the Long Gui, don’t be afraid to use an Elixer (which will free you up to summon another Eidolon). With a well developed party you should have little problem completing the battle. Once you defeat one Long Gui the achievement is yours.

Held every weapon and accessory.
This is by far the most tedious of all the achievements in Final Fantasy XIII, and it’s the only achievement that can be missed. Whatever you do, do not sell ANY of the items that you pick up throughout the entire game. For one thing, there’s really no need to. The amount of gil that you receive from selling the limited amount of accessories you is not even close to a fraction of the amount you will need to upgrade everything, so it’s better to wait until post game to really start upgrading items.
That being said, you do not need to have every item in your inventory at one time, you just need to have held everything. You will need to do a LOT of upgrading for this, and to do that you’ll need to do a LOT of grinding for materials and gil. There are guides all over the place for great grinding spots, so I’m not going to go into detail about where to grind for everything. Work through it slowly and you’ll eventually get the achievement.
Below is a checklist of all the items that you will need (table courtesy of Drogan13's guide at gamefaq.com):

Loremaster.jpg
Loremaster (80G)
Discerned the full attributes of 100 enemies.
You will get this achievement while playing through the game as long as you aren't avoiding battles too often. If you have trouble getting it, use Librascopes during battle to fill out the bestiary. Once you've completed 100 entries in the bestiary the achievement is yours.

Superstar.jpg
Superstar (80G)
Earned a 5-star ranking in the battle to determine the world’s fate.
You’ll need to defeat the final boss with 5 stars to get this achievement. While this isn’t very simple the first time around, after making some progress with the post-story content you can return to the Cradle and fight the boss again. If you still have trouble, wait until after you've completed the Cie’th Stone Missions and obtained the Gold Watch, an accessory that increases the target time for battles, making 5 stars easier to achieve.
Once you've defeated the final boss with a 5 star rank the achievement is yours.
