I feel that a lot of my friends although they aren't as an experienced at gaming as I am dont usually finish their campaigns. But for me I have only not finished 2 games and given up. GTA IV and Fallout New Vegas. I love Fallout 3 but New Vegas was disappointing and GTA isn't my type of game. What does everyone else think about this?

Most of my friends don't finish games because they are mostly playing casually or have a lot of work on their hands, so they don't have time to finish up.
Even me, with a lot of time right now, can't be bothered to finish most of modern games.

Maybe because their pacing is so terrible...

Games like Fallout and even GTA are very difficult to "Finish" unless you just mean the main story line then I have finished them, but if you mean 100% complete with all bonus and additional stuff, then I have no where near completed it! I still have many many hours to waste!

I generally finish most linear games easily, but when I'm offered a free to roam world with a multitude of side quests and dungeons... I simply get overwhelmed! I want to do everything! Kingdom of Amalur, for instance, took me almost 45+ hours to get past the first "continent" or zone or whatever it's called. I just get so sidetracked it's stupid! I spend half my time crafting gear and the other half doing every quest I come across and I'm fiercely overlevelled and overgeared by this point haha! Same goes with Elder Scrolls games, especially Oblivion. It was really hard to stick to the main quest line in Skyrim, but I managed to do it, because I knew how much time I spent already on Oblivion.
The biggest timesink of all, though I think is Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscure. It's an old PC game by Troika, the guys who made Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines and technically Fallout. I've probably spent more than a dozen weeks in play time in that game.

It takes a lot of time to finish GTA. Nobody can just keep doing the quests without wasting time on driving around and having fun. Linear games are easy to finish but open world games are meh. That's why I like to play sport games, fighting or fps.. you just get the controller and play without caring about the campaign or anything else.
