external hd leak (photo) june release(in update)

we have beat this hourse to death time and time again... heck the hourse may be a cat with 9 lives at this point... we want it like a fat kid wants cake... and we may actually be getting it soon.

notice the picture..
585.9gb free
external hd ready(bottom middle of screen)

all signs we may be getting it or at least the first photo proof its in the works or working.

The Xbox One in the photo shows 585.9 GB of storage available on the console, meaning it’d have to be connected and configured with an external 100GB hard drive. A pop-up on the screen also includes the message “External Drive Ready.” Unfortunately, we don’t yet have a timeline for when we might see this external hard drive support roll out to other Xbox One users. The poster on Reddit only describes the functionality as coming “soon.”

i personally hope/wish they give the ability to play music from a hd and use in game... (this would help twitch streamers as well) if/when i go hd u bet its 1tb+ so they better let the cat out of the bag what they will support and i sure hope its not a locked exclusive that sells directly from microsoft as a add on for big dollars.

A June system update to Microsoft’s new console will enable support of external storage devices, alleviating fears that owners will have to delete games when the system’s somewhat paltry 500 GB hard drive fills up.

The new feature, which Microsoft says was one of the most requested by users since launch, enables support for up to two external hard drives at once. Unlike the Xbox 360, which limited the size of supported external drives, there appears to be no limit here. Microsoft says any drive that's 250 GB or larger (and, cruicially, USB 3.0 compatible) will work, though you’ll have to format it to the Xbox
system first.

updated post : due to recent release of info... it is in bold..(did not want to start new thread)

I really do hope this is true and not just a mockup someone made. Would you be able to save game files onto this external drive and use it on another Xbox One?

i would think it may get an encryption fro mthe xb1/user/login to lock games to the gamertag.. i would think that was/is the biggest hurdle for microsoft to tackle with the xternal hd.

last thing we want is another dreamcast situation where people figure out how to pull the games and burn/transfer them for free.. it would end the xb1 sooner than later.. i would bet 75+% of xb1 usesers would have every game on the market within 6 months if they couldn't look it in.

I didn't even think of that, so probably not. I would just like something similar to when the 360's had removable hard drives so all I had to do was carry that around and not my whole system. A lot more convenient that hauling the whole system around to play at friends

I hope it's true but the picture looks like the left pick is slapped onto the dashboard background. Whatever it is, with the recent Microsoft announcements and policies I'm not surprised if this indeed gets implemented. Keep our fingers crossed guys that we will finally get external hdd support.

Hopefully so, at least if you login with the same ID it should access your saved games in the new console.
I hope it's compatible with very large external HDD's as I'd love to put all my saves there, if it doesn't take too long to load.

I really looking foward this feature. To have a large media center will be amazing. Because files in general (movies, musics, games) will be larger and larger.

That would be a huge feature if you are able to save games on the external. It would make playing games at other places than your house so much easier. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Any word on when it's coming out?

oh im with you.... i hope it supports 5tb western digital...

i am also curious if we can or will be able to run it thru a usb on the wireless router.. my gaming router has the ability to usb a external.. and i would think it would be fast since i am not wifi but wired/connected on my xb1

I'm not fully trusting this leak yet but hopefully it's not just some hoax, it would be a pretty good addition.

BTW, probably nothing to worry about when it comes to piracy. USB drives didn't really allow for piracy on 360, though the system had already bern cracked by then.

God I hope that photo is real and not BS but it probably is. The internet has made me a jaded person that doesn't believe anything until its 100% confirmed.

updated first post/thread with new info...

i am sure more info will be leaked in the next week or so..

Thanks for the update. I am hoping this feature will be as good as it sounds. Not having a cap on the size of the drive is crucial. If I can use my 2 TB I will be so happy because I know I will get a lot of games and not want to delete them..

i dont think their is a cap... i wil lbe looking for a 5tb myself...

looks like its going to have to be xb1 formatted.. so im not sure how much cross over for pc will be avaliable unless you can partition it and run it split.. i guess only time will tell.

I would assume you can partition the drive for any size you'd like (above the minimum). I really don't see how or why Microsoft wouldn't allow that. I have two drives partitioned now for my Mac and Widows Bootcamp I run... I wouldn't mind adding some more storage between my Mac and Xbox One. I still am going to buy a new drive whether you can partition or not but it's just another small feature that I would love if you can.

We'll see what's announced when June comes around, hopefully Microsoft will say something at the beginning of the month and not wait until the end.
This would be a really useful update and I'm betting a very desired one by lots of people.

Hopefully we don't have to wait forever for it. I would hate to see the leak, and then find out they aren't going to have it available until November or something...but hey, at least there's a sign that it's coming!

maybe you can mod the Xbox one to use any random external on the market, wouldn't be the first

I hope that they stay true to their decision in allowing any kind of hdd as long as they comply and not do some crap move like limiting to only "official" hdds to work. I know the probability is low but who knows.
