Xbox 360 Getting gas in The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct

I am able to get the gas, but I can't manage to get it to the car. I end up overwhelmed by zombies. Is there a trick to getting past them?

Hi guys - just wondering if you would recommend this game over the other Walking Dead game? I was a late-comer to the TV show but am hooked on it now and really want to try playing in that world, but I've read some really bad reviews for 'Survival Instinct' (the worst being at kotaku.com). I know reviews are only other people's opinions but still, it has put me off a bit. Do you think I would be better starting off by playing the episodes?
