I personally feel that it's very important to get to Point Lookout as fast as possible. Of course, first I had to complete a few missions - escaping the vault, finding out about dad, doing some things for Moira. I also ended up helping out a small child in regards to some extremely jazzed up ants. Then I bought a ticket and went to Point Lookout where I gained several great perks, an ungodly amount of money, and leveled up quite a bit. Following that I progressed to the Pitts before I got too invested in certain bits of hardware (Chinese Stealth Suit) - more perks, more funds, several levels. Normal missions for a while - then Anchorage and lots of perks, goodies, and caps. Then more normal missions until finally I gave in and got abducted by aliens. I hate aliens, but I enjoy piloting a spaceship. Also I hate aliens.
On another note what did you start out with? I focused on stealth/lock picking/science with high intelligence, very high perception, and moderate strength. Picked Educated and several similar perks... so by level 26 my character was unstoppable - and that's before he put on his stealth suit... I love that suit. Anyway -
If you have the Fallout 2 GOTY edition did you try to get to Lookout as soon as possible or wait until much later? If you waited until later ... how many times did you die and/or how many stimpacks did you burn through?
