While I have not had any noticeable problems with my xone, I did notice yesterday that the top of the unit was getting pretty warm/hot. Not to the point that you couldn't touch it, but hotter than I thought it should be. It was on the side where the power button is, not on the side where the discs go.

Is anyone elses seeing heat on the top of the unit system? If could be that my son left one of the cases from one of his games on top the unit on that side. If that is a fan or heat sink, maybe having the case up there was restricting air flow in some way. I removed the case, but it seems hot. I will watch it today and see how it feels with nothing hindering it....

The case definitely could have caused the heat buildup. Make sure that grill is not covered and the Xbox has room for air to circulate around it. I actually installed a fan in the back of the enclosed shelving unit the Xbox sits in to ensure it had an ample supply of cool air around it.

My Xbox One has been working fine and I haven't had any heat issues thus far, but like Gringo stated, I keep it uncovered with room for plenty of air circulation. I haven't put an additional fan behind it or anything, but it's got a nice, open space on our TV stand with nothing in front of it or behind it. If the problem persists, I would contact Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-XBOX and see if you can exchange it per the warranty. It shouldn't be heating up like that.

To clarify, by "enclosed", I meant the furniture mine is in has a door on the front. The Xbox was getting pretty warm in there (so was my Sony receiver) and I didn't want to take any chances. On an open shelf you should not need a fan.

In watching it over the last few days, it is just warm on top... not hot like that day. I think it was because the case was sitting on top of it and that restricted some air flow some kind of way. Although it doesn't seem that an air comes out of the top, I am sure it has something to do with it. Its been on this morning for 4 hours and it is just warm to the touch, nothing hot so far... but I will continue to watch it....

I did a little experiment. Place a tissue on top of that grill. The air won't blow it off but it will hold it up off the grill. There is definitely air being pushed out there. Placing a case over that would cause it to heat up.

I haven't noticed any heat issues on my console. Well you can try calling them but in case they don't have any solution you can try placing it on top of a laptop cooler that way it will have a fan of it's own. But I guess the case was the cause of the issue.

No issues on mine. I guess it really has something to do with the case. I guess I can check this further by summer. It's too cold so I can't really see any difference on the heat. I guess you can try Dom0411's advice to use a laptop cooler.
