hey guys I only have a monitor as display it doesn't have speakers built in , and it doesn't have any outputs other than the hdmi used for display..

How can I plug speakers into my xbox for sound ? nothing seems to work ?

think ill just buy a headset and wait until I get a decent tv, thanks anyway, seems buying the adaptor and some new speakers is just too expensive after all .

Sounds like a plan. If you just wanted sound I think you could use that adapter with any headphones you had lying around plugged into the "aux" port. Would save you having to buy speakers and a lot cheaper than a new tv. You may be able to find a cheaper adapter too. That was the first one I came across as an example.

I don't really know what adapter im looking for, I know you listed one, but it had so much information on description, im struggling to find one elsewhere, im in the UK so idealy if I could get it from maplins, I could just go pick it up...

Ive heard that some old headsets actually give sound still, but must be connected with 'I thinks its IR cable ? or Toslink link cable or something' if this is true do you know an old headset I can still buy , that will give me sound ? I can just go buy that then , not having a mic isn't a problem..

thanks for your help , got £500 worth of console/accessories/games, sat beside me and I cant use it , sort of funny....thanks again

*edit* so stupid, that I cant buy a pair of headphones that give me sound on xbox!*

Turtlebeach has a deal on their website if you buy one of the specified headsets they will send you the microphone adapter on March 1st when they are released. Might be a good way to go. You can use the Kinect for game chat till the adapter comes. Not sure what maplins is but as long as you get an old headset with the Toslink or S/PDIF input you can get sound.

I don't own any of those, but I do have a set of Turtle Beach which I am very pleased with. Looking at the reviews on Amazon and Bestbuy (my local go to store), the XP400 and 510 got slightly better reviews. They all look pretty good. Might be a good subject for another thread. I'm sure there are some guys on here who own those headsets.

new problem , I purchased the Turtle beach Ear Force XP7 I paid like £250 For this lump of plastic, its a lump because I cant even get audio out of my xbox one, is there any guides? it states its compatible with xbox one for audio but it dooooes not work for me, am I doing something wrong ???? please reply before I cry :)

I'm assuming you hooked it up according to the instructions and charged it up (I think that one is wireless). You have to enable the digital audio out on the Xbox. Settings>display & sound and turn on the optical audio to DTS Digital Surround. Mine is defaulted to off. Hope this works.

yeah I tried that , its not wireless, its wired, works fine on PC, im just lost here I have no idea what to do :(

Try setting digital optical to stereo, not DTS surround. Just checked elsewhere and it seems they will patch it later but it does not currently support DTS over the digital optical out.

YES I HAVE SOUND OMG FIFA MUSIC NEVER SOUNDED SO GOOD... you where right too I had to set It to stereo on optical output.

Im trying to understand all these different sound types, whats stereo ? is it just two speakers very basic ? because at the moment that's all I can get on my headset so sounds very basic.

are 5.1 and dolby digitial different ? on my audio controller I have a 5.1 icon and a DD icon the DD icon is always red as if it doesn't work, can anyone briefly explain ?

seems im a noob and shouldn't have purchased a £250 headset since I don't know how to get any use out of it

*edit* like am I only getting stereo from xbox ?

You are only hearing stereo sound, now. It is indeed 2 channels, left and right, very basic. For some reason the Xbox One, at the moment, does not output surround sound through the output you are using. According to the article below the capability will be coming through an online patch. If you have a DVD player with the same type of digital optical output or you play a DVD on your computer through the headset you should be able to get a better idea of what the post patch surround sound will sound like.

I'm sorry about the adapter price. I can point you in the way of some good wireless/wired headsets or monitors! I suggest Asus, Samsung or Vizio for your TV/monitor. When it comes to headsets, it really depends on your budget and I'd like to know before spewing out headset names.

ahh ok im looking forward to the patch then :) if I plug my headset into my pc though will I not get 5.1 anyway ? when using games etc ? or does a game need to be 5.1 for it to work ? I think my audio controller makes it 5.1?
