I bought this game, played it for about an hour and haven't played it since. It wasn't what I was expecting at all so I was pretty disappointed with it. I ended up letting my mom borrow it and she loved it though. So, how would you guys rate this game? Should I give it another chance?

Heh, you have a gamer mom? That's hella cool. Anyway, the game gets better the more you play as you find new areas, new enemies and new weapons so I'd suggest playing it a bit more. I was personally expecting an open-world zombie game that was about SURVIVAL but Dead Island clearly didn't end up like that and ended up being more like Dead Rising (which I love because everything is a weapon and it's hilarious) than anything... but I still liked it. Never actually beat it, though, but I kinda want to now that we're talking about it.

It was really disappointing. With that trailer, I was expecting a more personal, story-driven game. Instead we got a Left 4 Dead clone, with the plus of being open world and all not really cutting it for me.

Haha I love that your mom is playing Dead Island. I have played my sister's copy and it was way too intense for me. I can't play Left 4 Dead too long either, but I think I prefer Left 4 Dead over Dead Island. It's just a little too cheesy for me.

I would give it another shot. It has its flaws, but I didn't think it was a bad game. The characters leave a little to be desired, but all in all I enjoyed it.

Haha yep, I get it from her I guess xD She can't wait for DI: Riptide and Survival Instinct!

I think I might give it another shot, at least after my current list of games :P

Being a Diablo junkie, this game didn't impress me, although it had a lot of potential (hopefully Riptide will redeem it). I just felt like the things done right in Dead Island were done better in Diablo, and the quests, while plenty in number, are tedious and repetitive. The gameplay is decent, but feels unpolished, and there is little enemy variety. I'm definitely not suggesting you skip out on this game; if you're looking for a first person zombie-killing RPG, this game might be for you; it just lacks polish from an objective standpoint.

Yes, you should give it another chance. Get all the Achievements you can and sell that sucker. ;)

Honestly, from what has been shown so far, it looks like it's more of the same. But we'll see. There's one new playable character and they've added new mutations, hopefully they've fixed everything else and made it the truly awesome game Dead Island could've been.
