What I really like about this game is that it manages to tie in most of the rest of the series. You have your achievements (Eddie's Legacy, Alchemia's Finest, Angela's Choice...), but you also have bits and pieces of lore from other games. Pictures that are more than they appear, a woman who is sick and wants to remember better times with her husband, Pyramid Head (although buffer than I remember), Kaufman's elixir, catching a ride with Travis(?), and so forth. I like that it was basically catching up on all the stuff as well as placing it's own mythology. I also liked that it continued the theme of broken families, human error, and corruption via a place of hungering darkness. This really is one of my favorite entries in the mythos.

I enjoy the stories that follow the Silent Hill Mythos and I think about how it all started with some messed up pixilated dogs and a guy trying to find his daughter. I was sitting on the floor with a guide book and I played through that game bit by bit. I think I hated every moment because I hate horror games, but somehow it grew to something more to where I even went on to play that Silent HIll where you're stuck in the apartment and that answering machine just kept saying "I'm always watching" or something.

The point is, I played the demo of this game and am probably going to add it to my Christmas play list.

Hell with you Pyramid Head.

I really loved the first Silent Hill. Seriously creeped me out playing for the first time. At the beginning when you're in the fenced area and those demon babies start attacking you......*shivers*. I thought I had done something wrong when I died, until I realized it was just a dream sequence and I was SUPPOSED to die. That was my "I already love this game" moment!

Ah... you played SH4: The Room... also known as the most hated edition of the series ever. I didn't personally hate it, but I wasn't especially fond of it either. Random 1st person, recycled (literally) environments, and of course the jazzed up inventory. Still it had Patients and the opening and a lot of J-horror items to it so... I do enjoy it. Also Walter and the firm establishment of the Evens and Odds dichotomy.

I think I did hate that game, but at the time I wasn't going to complain about it. I wasn't ready to admit that any game I put money into was a bad game sort of thing, but I found myself trying to play through areas and there were just parts that I felt were under utilized. Within a Silent Hill game, you're so alone, but you're being haunted with a group of other people. I think it would have been awesome to have the entire apartment building and scenes where you have more discussion about what's happening. The room itself is terrifying though because the idea of being locked away in a place and no one can hear you or help you is scary within itself.

I think next gen silent hill will be fun to see, but I hope they remember that a great formula shouldn't be tweaked too hard.

I think it could have been a better game, but it wasn't particularly bad. It had several great monsters, you actually had an escort who could take care of herself, and of course... there was a lot of creepiness going on. A lot of creepiness - and that was awesome.
