Jesse Schell has spoken out how Microsoft should have stuck with their old policies such as the internet policy and family sharing policy, and how consoles will go nowhere if they didn't try something different. "There's one mistake that they all make, and that mistake is listening to their customers." He explained how they're always stuck to doing everything old, listening to their users will basically get them nowhere. "The problem is that the hardcore folks always want the same thing: 'We want exactly what you gave us before, but it has to be completely different.' I can't summarize the whole article, so I would suggest reading it. It is very interesting since he makes some very good points.

At the start of this year, many would have chosen Microsoft as the early leader going into the next generation. Nintendo was struggling to gather momentum with the Wii U, Sony was struggling to keep its console business in the black, and yet Microsoft was enjoying dominance and profitability, month after month, in both retail and online. When predicting the balance of power in the next generation, Xbox would have seemed to be the smartest bet. But if you asked the same people the same question today, the answer might well be different.

If they do something new little by little, yeah, things work. But when you say that you are going to completely change everything from out of nowhere, of course people will get confused and afraid if that will work. And they should stop complaining about all of that "listening to the customers" thing, it's just making them look bad as a company.
