Hi,

I really love super hero games in an open world sandbox. So, naturally, I really enjoyed Web of Shadows. I didn't, however, have a fun time playing the other Spiderman games that came before this (sorry, the names escape me). They were not open world and felt meh.

This game's trailer showed a beautiful clip of Spidey swinging through the city. Instantly I was thrilled. Another open world Spiderman game, OMG! <3

But then, when I eventually played it, I was quite disappointed. Why? Because, the game is not essentially an open world game. The city serves as a gate way to the levels that progress the story forward. And these levels are pretty much what we saw in the last Spidey game from this developer. I'm not bashing the city gameplay though, they are awesome, but I wished they'd used it more. Like chasing down bad guys or fighting in the air.

Thanks for reading.

I don't agree. I thought it was a great game. I love how Spiderman swings through the city. Most games these days are the same. You have to advance through an area (screen) to move on.

Yeah, I agree it's too linear. Still, I enjoyed it a fair lot, but it was far from my favorite Spider-man game. My favorites are 2 and 3.

I agree with everything you've said here and describing it as "linear" is the perfect way to put it. It wasn't a bad game, but I wouldn't classify it as anything other than just okay.

I definitely feel you. I was pretty disappointed. I played all of the other Spider man games and was well satisfied, but this one was pretty sub par a far as the story went.

Linear games can be ok, though I agree about open world. It really depends on how great the storyline is, and how good the gameplay is, in general. I haven't played this one, yet, but with so many disappointed, I'm not sure I will, either.

Yeah, I agree with YamiPrem, 'Web of Shadows' is the only Spider-Man game so far that offered a 'GTA' style of gameplay, which is the most interesting and desirable thing a fan of the web-swinger hero would want in a game! I mean, you want to go around the city fighting crime, while swing between buildings, and choose when to do certain stuff, and when a big villain appears, well, 'fighting time' but it can keep you entertained for a long time without forcing you to go 'this or that' way. Amazing Spider-Man was a disappointing and it's one more of those games that lie with their teaser trailer.
