How far back do you need to be for the Kinnect to work well? My current Den is kinda small and there is not that much room between my TV and my sofa... I am just worried about being too close, esp since kids sit in front of TV when they play games.....

Whats the optimal distance you should be back from it?

Microsoft said it improved Kinect on the Xbox One, and now a leaked setup manual indicates how little space it requires to operate. The PDF NeoGAF spotted notes that a minimum 1.4 meters (just over 4.5-feet) between the user and Microsoft's new do-all sensor is all that's required. For those of us with cozy living quarters, this could be a bit more generous than the last one's recommended six to eight-foot gap

Found this in an article on engadget. I can't link it because Im new to the forums but with the new kinect you need much less space for kinect to properly operate.

Mine works even around 11 to 12 feet. I guess it can also work up to 15 feet. This is a decent feature. I have no complaints about it. The voice control works fine even in that distance. I really love this feature. That way even if I am at my computer I can still work with my Xbox One.

For those of you with kids or other people talking.... how much of a problem is this while you are using the xbox. Does it filter out background noise, fighting, yelling, and anything else kids do, or is this a major problem with it trying to do things that no one is telling it what to do. Is it mainly suppose to be used and work solo with just one person, or can it tell if multiple people are talking and mess up. Not all giving it orders, I am talking about playing a game and kids are just talking or fighting in the room and the xbox turns off or goes to tv or something else crazy because it caught something they said. Is this an issue? I heard people that tried the fitness programs would say that if their dog came in the room, the kinnect would see the dog and mess up their exercise. Anyone have this problem

I haven't experienced any issues about this. I have my niece and dog around all the time and it doesn't affect it at all. I guess it really depends on the distance. The farther you get the weaker the signal is. So overall, I can say that I am loving this console. So does my niece. She loves the kiddie games.

What kiddie games? I have a 8 and 5 year old... I got them zoo tycoon and lego marvel heroes... but the rest of the games are for me.. what other games are their for kids?

Mines works from 11 feet away and it works perfectly. There are no problems at all and I can play games with ease. If yours can't, maybe your sensor is broken? Try to ask Microsoft Kinect support as I am sure they would be glad to help you.

If all else fails, refer to Google!

Just tried testing the distance and measuring it. Mine works okay even at 14 feet. I guess it depends on how and where your kinect is placed. Mine is on top of a tripod which I borrowed from my cousin since it doesn't work well when I placed it on top of my TV.
