Speaking to IGN at E3, Microsoft Game Studios vice president Phil Spencer addressed the absence of cult-favorite franchise Crackdown at both its May 21 Xbox One reveal event and at the company’s E3 press briefing.

“Oh… Crackdown is one of my favorite games, and not just because it’s a Microsoft first-party game,” he told IGN. “I have a lot of love for that franchise. The homage to Crackdown in the [May 21 event] reveal screenshots was… I know there was some, like, ‘Did we accidentally sneak that…?’ It wasn’t accidental. Definitely.”

good deal.. havnt played the first 2 but will keep my eyes open.

Cool bit of info. I think that's good news, I played the first one a bit, it was a fun game. Multiplayer really sold it for me. It could be really interesting to see the franchise on the next gen console. I think they could really do some neat things with a persistent world via the new server technology, imagine tons of players set loose on the same city, could be amazing!

Crackdown was a decent game. I enjoyed the cel shaded graphical style, but the game lacked the depth of a GTA or Saints Row. Eventually, I found it to get boring. If they improve upon these things on Xbox One, I could see it being a sleeper hit that sets it apart from many other sandbox titles.

Crackdown was pretty cool. At least the first game was. It even had some Celldweller songs in the soundtrack because that's how cool it was. Good to hear they plan to keep the franchise alive.

Personally, I overlooked right over the second installment. The first game is def. a pioneer in leading the Xbox 360 Launch, but it should've been retired there, while it peaked on top.

I haven't played the 2nd game. It sounds like it's not that much of an improvement at all. Sounds like it's actually worse than the first one, actually!

I loved the GTA-esque freedom in Crackdown. The only problem to me is, well, the lack of an actual storyline and ultimate sense of purpose. I quickly grew bored of it after a while of stunts and blowing things up, but it offered a lot in terms of area, enemies, etc. The devs may have relied on the leveling factor to give the game depth a little too much. It didn't really work, but I wouldn't mind it if they gave another shot at it.

It had no real storyline (for most of the game) because it felt like one of those games of old which were all about the fun gameplay. Back then, the stories were just excuses to get you going, nothing else. In that way, I felt like it really worked fine because the gameplay itself is solid enough.

I love these game, great mindless fun but the first was better by a long shot. The second was really the first with Zombies at night. The second for $10 used though or less is probably worth a play through. I wonder if they are planning to announce at TGS or something?

Would be awesome if they revived Crackdown for the Xbox One. Would be a great addition to a list of exclusives that's for sure, and it might even prod me into getting an Xbox One, that is if they remove the Kinect from the package.
