Let's face it. Microsoft doesn't really have a great reputation when it comes to the indie gaming scene and it's really their own fault due to practices or just bad PR. Sony (even though their rules weren't that great) has managed to become a haven for the Indie gaming scene as has Nintendo (who are the most indie friendly company). They've come out though and stated that their becoming more indie friendly so I'm hoping that Microsoft and Jonathon Blow kiss and makeup. Who are you hoping to see?

I guess it's a good move since they're planning on expanding their resources out on the indie market. I just wish that they can make up that way we can enjoy better services and games. I just hope that things go well for them to avoid further complications.

Yes, so true. they really don't have any face on the indie gaming scene. It's entirely their fault. It's a good thing they're managing to get back on track.

Microsoft might actually be getting indie-friendly. A few weeks ago, Divekick was announced to arrive on the Xbox One. Guys, Divekick was previously released on PC, PS3 and Vita. So for Microsoft to snag Divekick for their new console? That already gives the idea microsoft is truly being indie-friendly. But let's see if they can get more. Sony's leading the move in making indie games appear in all their consoles.

I heard about that too. Well, well, Microsoft is doing a good job indeed. Slowly but surely, indie developers will get into the Xbox Live market as well. But Sony did start this one with advantage so Microsoft better have a plan if they want to get the indie developers back with them.

Divekick on the Xbox One? Nice one. I'm all for the Steam version but at least more and more gamers get to enjoy the game. What I'm now curious about is: will there be Kinect controls? hohohoh, that'll sure beat down The Fighter Within.

Luring Divekick to Xbox One is a good start. Microsoft has a long way to go to gain those developers' trust, but I think they can do it or at least do it just enough to grab significant titles/establish a convenience relationship between themselves and indie developers. You know "We're not here because you're the best or friendliest option, we're here because we want to get out on as many platforms as possible."

I love me some indie games and I'm glad MSFT finally sees their value. Some of my favorite games of last year or indies.

You guys read something about the ID@Xbox having a part where the developers NEEDS to publish the game on the Xbox One the same time as other platforms? If the developer doesn't publish the game alongside Xbox One, it'll be violation of the policy and it'll deprive Xbox One users the game. Doesn't sound good to me. I hope Microsoft isn't doing that.

Yeah, beginning to love some indie games myself. Some are even bigger than the AAA titles. Take for example, Starbound. Seriously, for an indie game, it provides a lot of value. There's also Hotline Miami, Retro City Rampage.. yup, indie games are showing good value these days.

You're saying all the right things Spark LOL I actually put some Indie games in my Top 10 of 2013 list on my gaming blog (shameless plug). I think they deserve a spot on it. you should check out the list and let me know what you think.

You said it man. I don't know but when the AAA titles are beginning to lose the value, indies are the way to go. I agree on Starbound. That game's value never got to me until I realized... all the planets in the game infinitely regenerate and that each little star in the maps I saw were planets. I was like, "THIS IS BIGGER THAN ANY GAME I'VE SEEN". Yup, indie games are cool indeed.

Thanks super-mod. Guess I found an indie-game fan in these forums. Sure,. I'll give your list a whirl. Let me see what you got listed there. I might see a game I've already played before.

UPDATE: Checked your list. Hahha, that list was awesome! Hmmmm... You got me with Papers, Please. That game has my interest already. So it's a dystopian thriller where you choose who goes into the border, and who does not. I'm guess it's the indie game you can't judge until you play it for yourself. Overall, awesome list. Gone Home's nice too. The list is awesome!

Papers, Please is great. It's the kind of game that you have hours of fun with. I first came across it on a Classic Game Room review and decided to try it out. Well worth the purchase without a discount.

Definitely worth a play through, but the hours seem to disappear when playing LOL With the Steam Holiday Sale currently going on, I'm sure you can find it for a lot less. I also strongly recommend "The Stanley Parable", "Puppeteer", and "Antichamber". They are some of my favorite Indies of the year.

Papers, Please is $7 on Steam and $5 on GOG. Best to pick one of those up posthaste.

Really interested in Starbound after reading up on it.

I ran with GOG after I saw you mention it in the "What Did You Get For Christmas" thread. I'm on Steam, but I after seeing that GOG also had the original Wasteland and a bunch of oldies I decided to get Papers, Please there. I'll be playing it in a little bit.

Yup, Starbound's an interesting game. It's basically Terraria in Space. But even so, it's way bigger than Terraria. One defining feature: the planets. Unlike Terraria where you have worlds, in Starbound, one save lets you explore a whole galaxy. YES, a galaxy. Infinite procedurally generated ones. One planet is already like playing a world in Terraria. And it's got a story, where you play as one of the races that escape their own home planet for their own reasons. Also, the game's got quests that can explain to you the lore and world of Starboudn. Yup, lotsa stuff to do in the game.

Yeah I was reading the features and just thought "This just keeps getting better. It does what? Whoa!" Haven't had that response to a game in sometime, really.

Yeah man. What creed-dood says is true. I'm actually playing it on Steam. Man, the $15 I spent was worth it. Seriously, I never realized the scope of the game until I began my journey. The mere fact that every little star I see on map is actually a galaxy of planets, makes me think this game will expand further and further. And since the game is still in Early Access mode, the updates come and come. And you have 6 races, so they come with stories that can really explain a bit of the lore about the Starbound world. I've played about 8 hours and still, the game is just big. I haven't even reached the higher tiers of weapons and armor!! Also, it's got a quest mode unlike Terraria and Minecraft so it's got a story for real. Also, your first major boss is a UFO. XD Have yet to fight it since you have to make an item to summon it. Trying to prep myself.. Anyway, yeah awesome game.

Hmmm... hope it makes an appearance on Xbox One. It'll rock for the gamers. ;-D
