Xbox One Microsoft loses 400mill on the xbox one..

Console wars will lead to companies like Microsoft and Sony pricing their consoles lower than what it costs to make them and market them. In this case, Microsoft probably took a bigger hit because it didn't sell nearly as many units as the PS4. The company can't be hurting too bad, though. We're talking about a multi-billion dollar company after all. Still, the poor sales (compared to what Microsoft wanted) definitely affected earnings. A $400 million loss is nothing to scoff at, but it could have been far worse, and there's still room for things to improve dramatically.

Like maybe finally having a world wide release. Just using a little common sense and guessing. 13 territories only 5m consoles, how does that average up compared to 8m 72 countries?

Then there is the issue of games. One year in, holiday closing in fast. What games are we all looking forward to play. And damn..2015 is literally just around the corner now. Games, games, games, games, games. We've seen plenty and who are promising more AAA? What have we seen and read with our own eyes? Who's more prepared out of the two companies? Again just using my common sense. Can you try that Pramath?

Don't let me get into who got the better network infrastructure.

Wow, launching consoles REALLY puts these big guys into the hole..

Not that surprising really. They released a new console which didn't have any real 'hook' to it, and it bombed. I mean, the PS3 did this when it first came out, although that had the added issue of losing Sony hundreds on every PS3 sold regardless, because it cost so much to produce one, and they couldn't sell it for enough to fully cover the costs.

Nothing to of concern since even the Xbox 360 launched with a loss, it takes time before consoles turn a profit. What's more is that the Xbox One isn't selling like they hoped so a loss is to be expected. Microsoft is stuffed with money, $400 million is nothing to them.

I know but it makes me wonder why the heck are they even in the console business if they are THIS deep in the hole..
Nintendo seems to do pretty well most of the time..

Well, Sony announced losses recently also. No wonder, console launches tend to put a hole in their pockets - if you want your device to permeate the market and obliterate the competition you have to make some cuts. The money will come back eventually, payed by the devs that want their games on your device.

It's funny to talk about a 400M loss like it's nothing. MS can definitely take that loss, and then some. They will take action and change that though. I think they have to stop being greedy. If they lowered the price tag a little, and had a few different packages, like a package with 2 controllers or a package with a game or two, I think they would move more units. The aggressive price tag and bare bones package hurt them big. Not everyone wanted the kinect, but EVERYONE needed that second controller and at least one game.
