In response to a question on his blog about the reason for there being so few demos on One, Hryb, who is better known as Major Nelson, responded, "It is (and always has been) up to game developers to do demos for their own games. They'll be more demos for Xbox One as the platform goes forward."

All Xbox Live Arcade games were required to offer some kind of trial or demo version on Xbox 360. With there no longer being any distinction between Xbox Live Arcade games and retail games on One -- everything now is simply a game without any additional classifications -- many developers and publishers have opted not to offer demos.

Some might be surprised to hear there are any demos at all on One, as they were initially very difficult to find without knowing they were there. Rather than looking on the console's Games Store, those looking for a demo had to use Bing to search for demos. A section of the Store featuring available demos has since been added.

I admit I was one of the many that found the lack of game demos disturbing since I was a huge fan of the mandatory demos on 360. It's good to know that Microsoft will still make a push to get publishers to release demos since I always found them a great to help decide on whether or not I would commit to a purchase. Let's hope this is more than positive publicity buzz.

its still early in the ui... we are due for updates all around... apps, games, demo's,bug fixed and such i am certin allot of the "good" aspects of 360 will trickle over sooner than later... i am sure they wanted to get a working ui out that ran near flawless and with as much new tec of the bat scaling back was easier than a huge undertaking.

I hope there are updates soon. Especially....why do I have to turn on party chat when I join a party???Shouldnt be like that lol.

It's still early to put out a lot of demos, especially since it's just a new console and there's still bugs and glitches to workout. I'm sure they'll be able to put out more demos for you guys. Don't worry, there'll be more. I see it happening.

Nice that they have a section for demos in the store and you don't have to search for them anymore.

Still too early to consider making more demos. It's just weeks after launch. Give it to next year and you'll be seeing a bunch of demos ready for all of you. You'll see. Just you wait. You also have to consider that the developers, as Microsoft says, are given the option to make the demos so there's that important factor.

Without some of the demos on 360 I may not have bought some of the games I did, they need more on xb1. Now lol

Yeah, I do really miss demos myself. It was nice getting a sample of a game when I didn't have the funds to purchase a full one at 60.00.

They have a few demos out. I guess it really is too early since they just released the console recently But they have gradually improved it. I hope they could come up with a list of games available for demo soon. I look forward in trying all these games.

I am very disappointed with the DR3 demo. Not the game itself, the demo only allows 2 plays.
At least allow fully playing a section or something.

If anything I'd like to see the format of the demos change. I want them to be a little longer, I'm not saying two hours but at least 30mins to an hour would be good of a random section in game. Also I do agree that the DR3 demo was a disappointment, they should allow for at least 5-10 plays. Nothing to major just a little more push.

Yeah, they should make the demos longer. I wish they could make it at least 3 hours.

I have read some of these posts, and I wonder, why not have demos, though? Microsoft is not in charge of the developers making them, the developers are. None of their resources that should otherwise be spent fixing bugs and indulging in other updates are used. At all. All they are saying is they will push developers to make more demos, and I would prefer to have them for most games so that I do not waste space and money downloading or purchasing something it later turns out I do not like. There is literally no drawback to having them, and it takes only a small amount of time for developers to create them.

I'm one of those people who don't play the demos, buy the game and then complain about not playing the demo first. lol

I'm usually the same exact way. I typically never play demos, although now that my hubby doesn't run a Gamestop anymore, that may change!

Yeah, I agree. How can you really feel the game itself if it only lets you play 10 minutes? There's gotta be more time for us to play the demos. At least, we can know if the game is for us and we can decide if it's good to buy the full game itself.

Yup, same here. Demos were just those awesome stuff where you can play them to see if the full game was worth getting. It was also a fun way to learn the game's elements, the feel, etc. Now, there's less of them and you have limited plays with them.

god I hope so, 360 started off well in terms of demos but the last like 3 years have just been tragic haha.

Yup, tragic indeed. But that's how it is, I guess. There are many reasons why there aren't that many demos: resources, budgets, time, reasons... maybe some developers just don't have the passion to do them these days.,
