In response to a question on his blog about the reason for there being so few demos on One, Hryb, who is better known as Major Nelson, responded, "It is (and always has been) up to game developers to do demos for their own games. They'll be more demos for Xbox One as the platform goes forward."
All Xbox Live Arcade games were required to offer some kind of trial or demo version on Xbox 360. With there no longer being any distinction between Xbox Live Arcade games and retail games on One -- everything now is simply a game without any additional classifications -- many developers and publishers have opted not to offer demos.
Some might be surprised to hear there are any demos at all on One, as they were initially very difficult to find without knowing they were there. Rather than looking on the console's Games Store, those looking for a demo had to use Bing to search for demos. A section of the Store featuring available demos has since been added.

I admit I was one of the many that found the lack of game demos disturbing since I was a huge fan of the mandatory demos on 360. It's good to know that Microsoft will still make a push to get publishers to release demos since I always found them a great to help decide on whether or not I would commit to a purchase. Let's hope this is more than positive publicity buzz.
