Microsoft's Build developers conference in San Francisco has mainly focused on Windows 8.1 so far, but the company spent a few minutes talking about the future Xbox One development platform on Thursday. Steve Guggenheimer, vice president of Microsoft's Developer & Platform Evangelism group, provided big hints at how developers can target the Xbox One in future. "Xbox one has two engines, it's got a gaming engine and it essentially has a Windows 8 engine," said Guggenheimer, referring to the new Xbox One architecture that lets the next-generation console run on the Windows 8 kernel.

I guess this is good news.

It's fantastic news. Developers have been slow to code for Windows 8 because of the acceptance and adoptance rate. That said, Windows Phone 8 is probably the most missed opportunity since it has had 100% growth over the last calendar year and is still showing strong numbers. That said, the fact that devs can craft apps and have it transverse multiple platforms has to be an exciting as that really opens up multiple markets to them and not having to code and maintain for different standards, platforms... same development time and money. For all the gruff Microsoft receives, they do something like this that goes practically ignored. It's up to the developers now... can't wait to see what they come up with.

Why.

I want to play games, not use Window 8 apps. Windows 8 for PCs is a terrible OS. I can't speak for the tablets or phones, but I would assume they are pretty good, given that Windows 8 is designed for mobile not for PC. As long as this doesn't affect FPS in gaming I don't really mind, but it does make me worry a little that it might.

Analytics show you're in the minority. This sort of close minded thinking is why the envelope never gets pushed and why we're continuing the play the same COD game with new maps every year. Think outside of the box. One idea to ponder is cross-platform gaming. Think about playing your game and having to leave to go on a trip. So you pause it and then take it with you on your tablet and continue to play while you're traveling.

Windows 8 is not designed solely for mobile and stating such shows you've got very little experience with it. Windows 8 is literally Windows 7 with the Metro UI added on top of it.

of course they are going to use app/windows based... it will open their market up to indie gaming and general push to play games... it will take thehead ach away from them and leave it in the developers... im sure it will be an easy intigration since the apps are already on phones and such the infastructure is their why build something new when they have a decent starting point.

Xbox 360 has been working on its own thing with Apps, and after seeing this new generation of smartphones build huge databases of Apps on the phones, it was bound to happen on the console. This is where Xbox One will have an advantage over the PlayStation 4 unless the PS4 does something similar to what Microsofts doing and where smartphones already are. And before anyone says you use your Xbox to game and that's it. People used to only use phones to call people, now we text, access internet, game on them, watch movies, tv, and all kinds of stuff.

heck anymore if your car dosnt intigrate with your smart phone is a fleet model... blue tooth connect.. smart phones/smartglass are now steping into the gaming world as a 5th person in some games. ipads as well. it is quite intresting what is comming up these days...

This might be interesting.

Wonder how long it will take until someone uses it to exploit the Xbox One and the Microsoft ends up shutting it down, though. That kinda **** happens...

Why would I want air conditioning and a radio all I want is for my car to drive?
