A very interesting article at CVG has a short interview with Microsoft's Xbox Director, Albert Panello, that I found very interesting. In the article they discuss the possibility of bringing back the now infamous 'Family Sharing' ability briefly mentioned during the early days of the Xbox One reveal. For those of us not aware of the details, it was a feature that would enable us to share digital games with up to 10 family and friends. While Microsoft never got very specific, it got many of us very excited.

Panello goes on to say:

"I get a lot of mails saying 'god, please bring back the family sharing.' We'd love to figure out how to bring that back. I still think it was a good idea. Maybe it was a little too soon for some people, but I still think there were a lot of good ideas in there. And we'll bring it back when the time is right."

I hope this is something they take great haste to implement once the console hits the store shelves. I'm sure with the loss of the 'always on DRM', it will be much hard to implement, but there's stilll hope. I would love to expand my library buy sharing games with my friends, like intended!

Hmmm...so are they still reconsidering it? It would be really amazing if they could bring it back, but on always-on requirement please.

... Hmm as I recall the Family Sharing thing was just demos from a library. As in if your friend or sibling or whatever had say Awesome FPS XIII in their library then you could play an hour up to an 90 minutes of the game as a demo. I think they should really stop being coy and just say what this is and the basics of how it all works.

This is what Im talking about. Give me a little mor eof what the original plan was. Im all in with that.

They clearly stated it wasn't just demos. Marc Whitten said the idea of it just being demos is ridiculous on his twitter. The original announcement also stated it was full digital games. The demo idea was PS4 fanboys trolling.

EXACTLY! They shot down that demo and timed thing RIGHT away offically. I seriosuly hope they bring it back

I would love Microsoft if they gave us the ability to digitally trade games online. I have always wanted to trade games between friends online. Given this feature, it would only give me more reason to stay a Xbox fan.

This is fantastic news. I love the idea of sharing my digital games with family and friends so that they can share in the fun. I wonder when the "time will be right" though. What do you think, a year after the launch? Or six months post-launch? I hope it is within the first year. They didn't have to do this. It is nice that they are even considering it. I just hope that they follow through.
