Since the release of the original Xbox the Modding community has been doing some pretty amazing things with the hardware. Some of it was out of sheer necessity (cooling/fan mods) but some of it was just for looks and fun. I know I personally had some extensive mods on both my Xbox and my Xbox 360.

So now with the upcoming release of the Xbox One what will the Modding community attack first? Or perhaps Microsoft got this one right and we won't need Xbox One mods like the past hardware.

I think it would be cool to see a mod that allows you to play 360 games on there. I kind of doubt they will be able to do this though, but who knows. I would like to see any mod that counteracts the restrictions placed on the console by Microsoft, and that would be one of them.

Hi Dubs, he is talking about cosmetic modding and not hacking as we don't allow that on these forums.

Well, the console itself of course. Anything to get the console out of that VCR look!
Which reminds me, will this be able to stand up vertically, or will it be laydown only?

There might be modders that will mod the look of the console, maybe do a paint job, or customize it themselves. I really don't think XbOne will be released in different colors, which sucks really.

Other than painting or customization, I don't see any other things you can do, but there are a lot of clever people out there. There will eventually be a useful mod that may even take advantage of the new entertainment features.

Even if Microsoft "gets it right this time", there will always be mods created. There always are.
Xbox one will probably be attacked physical appearance first.

I wonder why people never learned or never wanted to learn what happened with the 360. The design was perfect, why there was so many defective console was the fault of a supply company. They supplied a inferior fill material to the manufacture of the GPU. This material would not transfer the heat from the chip to the support board, causing the chip to warp and break the solder joints.

Which reminds me, will this be able to stand up vertically, or will it be laydown only?
My understanding is that you can not stand it vertically like the 360. Totally sucks for me as I have more real estate in the vertical direction in my media center. I'm going to have to reconfigure everything to fit the One in there.

I'm curious to see if they embrace modding/hacking with the xbox one like they did with Kinect.

I bet everybody is looking forward to the console being transplanted to a new case, since so many people complain about the "VCR" look, heheh.

I think as soon as the One is released we'll start seeing people/companies roll out all sorts of modifications. It's inevitable. It'll start with color and graphics and expand to more complicated things such as overhauling the entire console to move away from the dated look that most people aren't a fan of.
