All right, I think this is something I've yet to see happen and something the Steam Machines may do: can mods be possible in the next-gen consoles? (or current-gen console).
Mods are one of the things that keep PC games alive and well. That's why even for games like Total War: Shogun II or Civilization V or even Left 4 Dead 2, they're alive thanks to the mod support both in and out of Steam. But do you guys think mods can be supported for this generation's consoles?

Can't really tell yet until a developers says they can put it in. But there's a possibility mods will be supported. Still, with Steam Machines coming out now, the chances of mod support will be downsized. We'll just see where it goes.

With what we have today I guess putting mods in next gen consoles won't be that hard. It would be a good thing for us and the companies to add mods that way the gaming experience will be better. I can't tell for sure when this will be applied but I hope they can do it soon.

Hmmmm... might be possible. With the consoles already sporting a PC-like architecture, developers can finally add mod support for the console world. All we can really do is see if it will be possible.

I'm not sure if it will ever happen to consoles. Allowing mods to be used might give hackers an exploit to piracy. Having mods means that Microsoft allow people to install custom files on it and that could be bad. Well, I'm no programmer so my perception might be wrong on this.

Hmmm... nah, can't happen. Why? Like what the heavensdevil said. Keyword: exploit. It's going to be hard to get back from that. Also, if they did make mods possible, they might do what EA is doing now with the official mod support of SimCity: implement a very strict policy on what goes in and out of the game. So mod support may happen but the freedom won't be as free as the PC mod world.

Yeah, I agree. They will set a lot of rules that will prevent the overuse of the mods. I guess mods are better off on PC.

You said it. Yes, it's true. EA's strict policy may actually be implemented if mods are to be supported for the current-gen. It can't happen. See why Minecraft for Xbox 360 gets skin packs with a price? Sad but true.

Right you are, just like what thecreed4life and marthyrocks said. This cannot happen.

thecreed4life and marthyrocks are right. I second their motion. I also saw the news about EA's strict policy on mods. Yup, really cannot happen. Which is why in some ways, the Steam Machines will have advantage with this since Steam Workshop will be supported very soon in the Machines. PS4 and Xbox One can't do it right now or it can't happen. Sad and yes, so damn true. Well, mods will always be in the PC world. But Steam Machines? the Workshop is the closest they can get to something that can be done in the living room.

True. The thing is mods are always better off on PC. It would be really impossible to have it fully integrated on the consoles we have now not unless they come up with an agreement.

I can see it now: PS4/Xbox One crowd will be mad that the Steam Machines get a chance at something close to mods. And yeah, an agreement is fine but EA already showed that trying to integrate mods have a lot of catches.

Steam Machines will really dominate once they have the mods applied.

Oh man. That is going to be true. Steam Workshop support in Steam Machines will really change the game a lot. From the Velociraptors in L4D2 to the gun paint in Counter Strike Global Offensive, it's really going to show Steam Machines their domination.

I wish they can make a new Counter Strike game. Haha. If they can make it more futuristic it would be a lot better. Like add some cool rides.

Hmm, something cool like what they had on Lone Survivor (Movie). That movie was really cool but it had quite a sad ending. But yeah, I'd like to see a gaming environment that harsh.

I hope they can really make something cool for Xbox One this year. Steam is already up to something. They should work really well to keep the business on Xbox One instead as much as they can. Otherwise there's a possibility of people going back to PC.

That's a big possibility. PC gaming is still going strong after all. If Steam Machines prove successful, PS4 and Xbox One are going to have some working to do.

True. Thing is they have to start thinking of improving the whole concept of gaming. Oculus is definitely on the right track. I just hope microsoft has better things in mind than just focusing on making Xbox One an all in one console.
