So my sisters Xbox controller is broken it was going dippy anywhere as sometimes when you tilt it, it presses the buttons and controlling a game is almost impossible. It is totally broken now though. My question is do you think I should get a controller online, because they have them quite cheaply on the likes of eBay, but they are not the official controllers. I just don't want to buy one that isn't going to work, but they work out a fair bit cheaper than buying an original one.

I wouldn't worry about buying one online. Just be sure to read the description of the item from where you are buying it from like eBay or Amazon. If the controller comes broken and the advertisement states that it wasn't, you can file a chargeback depending on how you bought it. I don't think you'll have any trouble though. You can also buy a custom made controller as well if you'd like.

Thanks, yeah I think it will be okay. There are some really cheap ones and it just made me wonder if they would be dodgy or not. I think I will try eBay though and hopefully get a good bargain.

I would be carefull, the controllers you get on ebay (the cheap ones anyway) aren't official controllers but rather chinese knock offs. They usually function alright but they have a totally different feel to them in weight and button feel.

Besides the weight and feel the durability will likely be worse than the official controllers.

If you can find an official controller that's discounted, or used, that might be a better idea than getting a knock-off. A knock-off will probably break faster than your official Xbox controller did and then you're back to square one.

My brother is 13 and is a wiz at fixing those controllers. He has a couple tools that he uses. If it has anything to do with a recessed button or trigger, that is always an easy fix for him, he just opens it up and does what he has to do. He's that kid that customizes his own controllers and what not. He has a pink controller with bullets as his A,B,X,Y (Kids these days). I would say you just invest in a refurbished Xbox controller on Ebay and they are usually at a third of the price as well. Knock off's will just break again, and easier. Plus, the difference in weight and feel is not worth it in the end to save only a few bucks.

As others have said, the weight and feel will be completely different.

When I originally bought my Xbox it came with a rip-off controller. I didn't notice any difference at all until I finally decided to get a real controller. For a couple of weeks your hand will not sit comfortably. It took me quite a while before I got used to how far the buttons were pressed and the different feel of the controller.

If you really need a controller quick, they do work, but I would always recommend going after the official ones for the extra price. You might even be able to pick up a used one for a good price.

:) I would just go to GameStop and get a used one, don't wanna invest the money in a cheap chinese knock off that will probably just break or not work right. I think you should definitely not buy it online, at least not ebay, But if you do check the sellers reputation and order reviews.

i have heard many times of people getting fully operational controllers online and they very satisfied with them. You do have to be careful though, there always has been and always will be scammers out there so make sure it's a reliable source you are purchasing it from, do a Google search on them if it's a company otherwise check out the sellers page before you purchase. On another note for some reason Xbox controllers never seem to just die on you, they always slowly deteriorate until you can no longer use them without frustration, it's a good thing I suppose.

I bought an original controller online a year ago, I think it was 20-25 bucks, works like a charm and had no problems so far, I'd look into that option instead of knockoff controllers

I have bought an original one for $23. It works perfect and have had no problems with it. I could have got a really cheap one for about half that price, but there is of course a chance it will be so poorly made that it doesn't work...happy with my purchase.

If you don't use it that much, sure, i would recommend for you to get one of those non official cheap controllers, but if you are going to do some serious gaming sessions, you better get the official controller, which is a lot better.

Depends really. It's 50/50 how it can turn out. The cheaper ones you're buying won't be as great of quality, so even if you're paying less it may last you the same amount of time (if not less) than a real controller would. So it's a good investment to get a standard controller and take care of it. Also I've heard that they work a bit different, the feel or something like that. I don't know, I'm just weird and I prefer to buy real things and not knock offs. Don't trust them.

My controller is history, I have dropped it down the stairs ever since then it has been malfunctioning.

Don't buy a knock-off and just buy an official one. They are only $40 at the moment, and not too big of a hit on your wallet. They are definitely better quality that will last you a while. Unlike me, I smash and bash my controllers from raging too hard.
