firs toff ill start by saying i am a car guy thru and thru... i was drag racing at 14yr at island, atco, raceway park and various drag strips around the tri state... i had parental wavers to race.. i was once one of the youngest to win the chevy nostalgia race in a blown 502/502 crate motor on street tires... car also got me a faster than 10s trophy on streeet tires 20+ years ago... and this was before i had drivers license.. ive built, been around drag cars from domestic to import my whole life.... look in my intro thread if u want a few pics of the toy chest.

with that said.. having a real world style racing game would be epic... forget forza style or crew. i mean the actual culture of driving...

id say location.. japan... or miami or tx... leave it hub centric.. really break it down... have it take 4 hours to drive 55mph to a destination... where weekend road trips with your group was a big thing.. or ur 2 days off during the week u went hunting for that race or to meet up with someone you called out..(more on that later)

ill start with the japan thing..
you obviously would have your general home area. the shop where you modified your cars... have your house be your home location... with money earned you could have a 2 car garage.. where having a group earn money could could open a shop with 4 bays.. hold 8 cars.... but it was shared space...

you would have roads like normal.. heck take the map of japan and build it in game.. you would have parking lots or rest areas... where you could go park and chatt/smack talk set up races... lock in money. if that parking lot is full u drive to the next one till u find one open. but the main stage would be the famous DAIKOKU FUTO where all the big players would be... the high money races..

racing for street credit/grudge racing is free... you can always opt to wager money... or bet on a race that a friend is in.. the terms would be agreed upon in a menu... roll racing,60-200, 1/4 mile.. is where you would/could get street credit. you could also opt for it to be at the track... if it was open...

the world would be based around a 24hr life cycle. day time/night time.

along with street racing you could do course racing... taskuba ect ect... and also earn money with the pot/driver count... say a big event weekend could earn you a few grand be it drag racing or course racing. and you could not be a street racer but focus on a career in racing but without street credit/money you would only be stuck racing events.. money earned would be high but less frequent.

car modification would be key... emphasis would be on how you develop your car... be it course(turning/grip monster) street(focus on useable power) or a line between both...modifications where you could choose from diffrent model turbo's some max out at 400hp,600hp,800hp 1000hp if u were high way roll you would want bigger power if u were dig racing you would want responsive setups.. (opponents would have a color around name or txt would be color coded to identify what class or hp range the car is in.) the choice between a short final drive or tall... tight gearing or spread... the weight removal coudl throw off car balance.. 50/50 or a 40/60 for weight transfer.. obviously awd, rwd,mr would have an effect as well on grip and speed.. where the car really had a powerband... say turbo spool was around 5000rpms and ur apponent spooled around 3500 he would have a slight advantage. if he was awd he would have a hole shot but wouldnt have gearing up top..

having tires like street slicks, street tires, slicks, road course/grip... you wouldnt be allowed non dot tires on the street... and tire wear would be affected with milage you put on car.

where the game would get tricky would be... engine damage... oh yea.....
would need to be something like.. on a freh motor/rebuild it would take more abuse... say the motor has a % of how abued it is.. also would lack in performance.. for example if your racing on a 90% motor and were racing mis shifted or late shifted and it went above red line it could take 10% or more of its damage/abuse.. maybe drop it 20 hp... say your driving the street and your on low boost it barley causes abuse but if your driving on high boost/kill mode and always in it your likley to damage the motor... and fixing it could take time... left abused a fix might take 2 (24)hr days if your at 10% life left...
the percentage of a repair would be based on modifications... if ur motor has 10k invested than your fix bill is more.. it makes you race in ur class or really pick races that will matter to you.. or your set on making that big event in 100% condition.. u may take your other car out and play and setup a race for the weekend in the power house car. but lower your engine percentage the more time/money it might take..
lets say upon startup/entering garage.. you were given a free (5min) plug/wire change.. could give u 3-5% engien fix.
modifications would take time.. a motor job might take 5 days...(real 24 hr days) a built head might take 3 days... simple turbo swap 1 day.. major turbo swap 2 weeks.. u could drive your car how it sat and money would be paid... but ur parts wouldn't go into effect till that time elapsed... and untill car it was in your garage... so if you setup a race u couldnt go swap parts quick...

fuel would take money... you could run cheap fuel or race fuel... it would matter on power. it is where the numbers could change in hp... 89,91,93 110,c16 say you were on a road trip and it took 2 fill ups.. it would take that from your balance. the high hp cars would take more fuel than the 500hp car would.. a street car would have say 19gallon tank... drag car might have 5 gallon tank road course may have 30... you could have a drag car setup for the street and have to pay to trailer it... say 500 a trip... so ur big event weekend might cost you 2000 dollars but the payout might be 10g... u may win 50bux back depending where you places...

its allot of general ideas but i think it would make for a great racing game... screw missions... give me real world cars.. open enviroment on highways... the ability to change suspension settings boost compression in motor.. have classes in 50hp spreads so u could be tight networked in races... give me real world issues.. motor damage, tire wear, fuel costs and don't let money be somehting you only earned but had to spend to go out...

it leaves allot of doors and what iffs but its a good starting point.
fwiw its 4th of july and im pretty deep on my crown/cokes i am sure its a all over the place

This sounds like a really more in-depth Need for Speed Underground 1/2 and it sounds really cool. I would definitely get a game that has this kind of customization and openness.

I was basing it loosely on want an midnight but much more in depth.

I'm not usually a fan of racing games without a twist, but this idea of yours sounds absolutely incredible. You add so many extra dimensions to it than games that focus just on outracing the competition with a lack of any real customization in terms of the cars themselves. They usually try to make up for this with a myriad of different types of cars, but in my opinion what you suggested would be much better. All of the cosmetics you described are possible with what's available, you should try pitching it to a company that takes requests like this.

Wow. That gives me chills just reading that. I think that would be something people would be interested in. Take your ideas to a developer! What's the worst that could happen?
