I just got Modern Warfare 3. This is actually the first time I've played any Call of Duty games. So far, I'm really liking the campaign. I don't have any complaints right now. AS far as multiplayer, I have yet to get my skill. I do like community games more than Standard Matches. All or Nothing is my favorite, it just seems the most fair to me.

I just started playing and I'm already at rank 12 (going against people with very high ranks)

I don't know how I like the ones where you have to hold down a base. Those games seem to last forever.

Any advice for me?

Good thing that is your first Call of Duty. The best advice i could give you is have fun. No, seriously, just use whatever weapon you like, try them out to see how they feel, and don't try to take the game too serious, because it's best enjoyed like that.

Also, for a better experience, mute everyone in the lobby.

You're going to love it once you get used to the whole thing.
Be sure to play with a whole lot of friends for the best experience.

I lol'd at the last part. I'll be sure to do that. As for taking the game seriously, I never do that. I may get frustrated if I died too many times in a row, but I genuinely laugh if I mess up or something. It's really easy to just giggle it off instead of raging and making yourself look pretty stupid.

Oh I reeeeaallly hope so. Also, unfortunately, my friends have all moved on to playing Black OPS II, so the chances of me playing with a whole lot are very very slim.

It sounds funny, but it's true. There are too many young kids who want to "sound older" who have foul mouths on their microphones! It just really improves the game to mute everyone.

Pretty much this, but if you're genuinely wanting to improve your game, learning each map is crucial. I know it's a no-brainer for any FPS game, but the very best asset in any CoD game is seeing before you're seen. Also, I personally immediately mute annoying or rude types, but some people are actually respectable. Still, the tryhard factor does tend to be sky-high in IW games, so I wouldn't frown upon muting indiscriminately.

I have found that I'm better at using certain classes of weapons, and you may find yourself in a similar boat. Try experimenting with all the weapon types (and perk set ups too!) to find out what you're most comfortable with. This will definitely help improve your game play.
