Black Ops was simply a great experience for me. The multiplayer is balanced by Call of Duty standards; the guns all have ample and unique recoil, and it adds variety as well as makes spraying more of a non-option. The perks are balanced decently, and the only terribly-conceived perk is Second Chance Pro. The customization options are great, and no Call of Duty since has been better in that department. The maps are varied and versatile, and spawning, while not perfect, is better than in any other Call of Duty in my experience.
I also prefer the Zombies mode in Black Ops to the other Call of Duty games. W@W served as the foundation, and it was refined to perfection in Black Ops. Each Black Ops map has the level of complexity of Der Riese, and nothing is overdone (which I think is the problem in Black Ops II Zombies).
The campaign is one area that I thought Black Ops II improved on, but Black Ops has a great campaign nonetheless. The setting is unique to Call of Duty, the tone is darker, and the presentation is gripping.
Overall, I have to applaud Treyarch for Black Ops; I'd gladly put this game in my Xbox anytime.
