That is what a reviewer said about the Xbox One. I am sure we will all have our say when we get our hands on it. I know a few people who are trying to wait it out so they can demo it in store before buying. Is anyone here doing that or are you like me, throwing caution to the wind and ordering as soon as you can get a store that has a free list?

Whenever someone says something is or isn't "cutting edge" or "next-gen" I always have to ask first "What was your criteria for that judgement?" and "Compared to what?" I'm pretty sure most people mainly think of the processing power and extra features, so I often wonder exactly what they are expecting to experience differently when they wait to play it in person. Confirm the frame rate is better? Note the graphics are better? See all the buttons work? I don't see what a live demo will change for some people, console-wise.

i pre ordered.. the whole non next gen is ehh.. its a gen above the 360/ps3 when talking computing power. it really depends on what you consider to be next gen.. if you are looking for something completely different probably not.. and with as entitled games are you probably wont get next gen ever.

gamers may be smart geeks but they are not into change or trying something new by any means. the more i talk to "gamers" in person the more i laugh at that about how one track mind they are.

things like illumi room and kinect are the stepping stone to real next gen in my mind. those 2 technologies together will destroy the oculus rift away.. n need for head set with immersive gaming+controlerless.

games dislike the kinect and what it can do but it is the dorrway to real next gen tec. the computing power is on the table for illumi room kinect tec is where microsoft is focusing their efforts to merge the line of immersive gaming. till kinect gets the data and backing and general raw power sorted out we are really on a xbox 360 2.0 system. yes the graphics are better the computing power is 3-4 times as much but till we can harness the power of other tec and integration we are not full next gen..

but yes we are next gen capable but close minded gamers will keep us at version 2.0 of previous consoles

Personally, I compare it to the current generation. PS3 and 360 are surpassed by the Xbox One.
This is the criterion that makes me say that this is the next-Gent!

Xbox One can shoot fantastic games and the Kinect was really improved and the features seem to be nice.

So yes, it is a Next-Gent console!

I'd have to say all of the new consoles are next-gen. Their harware is definitely improved since they were each launch like 5-6 years ago.
I mean maybe he was hoping for some crazy super computer in his consoles but we'll never know I guess. Also I'd have to say I've not waiting for a free spot on the list to buy any console, I'm waiting for when it may get cheaper or when I have some money.

The specs seem like enough of an improvement to warrant the 'next-gen' tag. Of course, we're probably gonna get start getting diminishing returns on each console generations, due to the limitation of hardware, but it seems good enough to slap a 'next-gen' sticker on it, heh.

Who knows what the reviewer was thinking. Maybe he was expecting totally extreme and just didn't get that. For me, the criteria to be considered next gen is pretty simple. As long as the next system has much better specs and features than the last console, to me it is a next gen console. I can see why some would not consider the Wii U next gen but when it comes to the Xbox One, I don't see how they could come up with that conclusion.

I am not purchasing this rig, I just don't see the point. That said I have a very simple rule of thumb - "Next-gen" means that there is a new console following from an established line. So the Xbone follows the Xbox 360 which followed the Xbox. See the progression? That said in many ways I'm not expecting too much of anything especially since they persist in pushing the Kinect... the Kinect which has yet to progress being a cheap cash-in on the Wii's success.
