Xbox 360 Phelps' Demotion

When you're playing L.A. Noire, is there any way to avoid being demoted in the game? Was I demoted to the fire desk because of poor game performance up to that point, or is that part of the story line and there's no way to avoid it?

If you're talking about being demoted after sleeping with Elsa, the answer is no-it's all part of the storyline.

Yeah, it's just like Jstep said - it's part of the story line so there's no way to avoid it. I remember how shocked I was when that whole cut scene finished playing and he actually HAD been cheating on his wife. I have to say, I lost a little bit of respect for old Phelps on that account.

The first time I played L.A. Noire, I was confused about the demotion, too, especially since I'd had such a hard time questioning suspects and witnesses. It's just part of the story though; even if you had 5-starred every case, you still would have been demoted after the affair.
