Microsoft is no longer requiring developers to pay a fee to patch Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade games, after dropping their earlier policy that placed a hefty sum on game updates, Eurogamer reports.

According the report, which was corroborated by an OXM report, this also extends to XBLA titles that have failed to pass certification. Prior to this change in policy, Microsoft required XBLA developers to pay a fee to resubmit titles that failed certification; now, developers are required only to pay a single submission fee with no charges for re-submissions. Developers may be charged for "excessive" re-submissions, however.

Look at them. Their becoming the most freindly environment to develop for with all these great updates this week. Microsoft is really pulling out all the stops now.

I am happy and not happy to hear that.

- The smaller developers can update their games without breaking the bank ... And large developers will correct their bugs faster.

- But developers will be forced to sell our non-completed games. Made the day every time you start a game .. It's not fun when it comes to several GBs.

Nothing wrong with it games are still on 360 for development. Indie companies can get their feet wet with the writing program. 360s not dead and they will still make money on it or a few years

While this should have never been an error they had to step in and correct in the first place, I'm not cynical enough to skimp out on applauding them. Microsoft was originally on a path that would put them at odds with fans and developers, and it's good to see that they're taking the feedback to heart.

Wow I never even knew that this was a thing. This looks like a push to get new devs on board with the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. I guess it's a good move but it's kind of crazy knowing that at one point updates costed devs money. That's a little hard to wrap my head around.
