Hey guys,

Where do you go to sell your old and unplayed video games? I'm really tempted to just go to Game Stop, but I know I'm probably going to get ripped off really bad.

Also, I want actual cash not gift cards or store credit. Any suggestions?

Depends on where you live. There's a site where I live which buy the games back for about half the price or lower depending on how old the game is. I don't think it's that bad a deal to be honest.

Although I've never sold my games I have thought about it and checked the price. Still I love collecting the games and building my library. It's 40 games strong atm. :D

Like NatureSun pointed out, it depends on where you live. You should shop around for the best deals in your area. In England we have a chain called Entertainment Exchange and they generally offer pretty good rates, and they accept pretty much anything. You can give them a 20 year old game without a case and as long as it works you will get something for it. It won't be much albeit, but if you really want some cash for it then it's not a bad option. eBay is also a pretty good option, especially for some more obscure games.

Let me suggest trying ebay or Amazon.

Ebay will at least help you put a decent price onto your games, while getting them into the hands of a player immediately. Unfortunately, its not as quick as some people like it to be since you have a 7 day auction between you and a buyer typically. It is an auction but if a game has value then you're going to receive value. You do have to mail what ever you do sell and you need paypal.

In other ways to deal with this you could just trade to Amazon. Their prices are better than Gamestop IMHO and you'll be able to turn around what you make and put it towards a game on Amazon immediately. Good times.

When it comes to selling games for me, I used to go to GameStop when I was younger because I was pretty naive. Now that I'm older, I only trust Craigslist. I have found that using Craigslist has been much more effective for me in terms of getting a good deal. I have sometimes managed to make a few profits as well, such as buying a game and selling it for a higher price.

I agree with Craigslist, eBay or even selling to friends over going to GameStop. That place is ok for trading games, but you will not make very much at all by selling your games to them for cash. You'd be better off giving them away for free to a friend who would like it, instead of gamestop pretty much.

How quickly do you need the money? More over are you sure you need cash? If you answer yes to either question then I would suggest either a pawnshop or GameStop. Will you make a mint? No, but you will make back something from the game - so long as it is on a current system. So if you have 360, PS3, Wii, WiiU, DS, or 3DS you should be okay. If the title you're selling back has been out 3 months or less you'll see probably half of the value back, but definitely more than 20 back so long as it isn't a sports game. You'll make more if you take credit, but they will give you actual cash in your hand if that is what you need.

eBay can be sketchy because you won't actually have the cash until every thing checks out - this is how they protect the consumer on that site. Amazon is more likely to just give you credit over cash. Craigslist is sketchy - murdered in a back alley sketchy. There have been Dateline stories about that. That said most folks hate GameStop, but I've had to make a quick buck before and they were the best option available considering my needs.

I've always done Gamestop personally. I've taken some of my more retro games (being N64 or Gamecube, if that's retro in your eyes) to a local game/pawn shop type place. I've never been remotely satisfied what anyone has to offer. "What?! I bought that for $60 a few months ago!" "Yes, well, it didn't do super well and we are overstocked.. so, $3.52, take it or leave it bud." "...Fine, I have to get lunch some how..I was just hoping for Olive Garden today." I actually just started trying to sell some games on Amazon as of today. I have no idea how successful I'll be or if it will be a headache to do, but I'm determined to get a fairer price.
