Xbox 360 Should I try Ace Combat 6?

Hey all,

I loved the previous Ace Combat games on PS2, and hated Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. Is Ace Combat 6 more like the previous games, with strong storylines and partially-realistic gameplay? Or is the game overly simplified and arcade-oriented, like Assault Horizon? Thanks for any advice.

In my opinion the newer Ace Combat's are nowhere near as good as the originals. They've made too many changes to oversimplify the series to make it appeal to a wider audience, so it isn't as appealing to hardcore players.

As the guy above said, they made things simpler to obtain wider-appeal. I've seen many Ace Combat fans being disappointed over this game, so if you like the PS2 ones it might be better to skip this one unless you can find it cheap. I, not being an Ace Combat fan by any means, liked it. But yeah, the fans of older games seem to have hated it.

Alright, thanks for the input. It's always a shame when game series begin to lose direction, like Dead Space and Resident Evil recently. Too bad game series can't evolve as easily as bands.

I find it very frustrating when they change the games in an effort to appeal to a wider audience. That seems counterproductive to me because they end up losing the players who loved the originals and would have stayed loyal.

I haven't played the previous games but when you look at it as a single game and not mind the other games in the series, it's definitely a good game. In fact, I can say it's one of the best games I've ever played on Xbox 360. I'm sure you'd like it if you gave it a try. The air-to-ground combats can be a little frustrating time to time, but other than that, it's definitely a game that can keep you hooked for hours.

I agree with Tofu on this one. Then again I hadn't ever played the other ones that came out first. I found this game to pretty fun and it kept my attention for hours. I love the fighting though. If everyone else thinks the other ones are better, I better buy an older version and give it a try.
