It seems the game has received a very negative reception from critics so I'm wondering if anybody out here has actually played the game. I would like to hear what you people think about it, instead of just trusting some reviews. I'm not an Aliens fan so I was never too interested in the game, but it's sad to see Gearbox Software release such crap (though it seems that Gearbox are only good at Borderlands and Brothers in Arms).

Oh man, Rock Paper Shotgun have their "Wot I Think" on Alien: Colonials Marine up now. It is hilarious but I feel bad for the poor little game!
A few notable notes:

-Talking of the Power Loader, it’s almost impressive how they’ve managed to reduce it down to something as fun as stabbing yourself in the back of your hand with a knitting needle. There’s no weight to it, there’s no sense of strength, or power. And it’s tiny! Imagine if they’d tried to capture that awesome sense of sheer danger you get when Ripley climbs in.

-At a certain point during development someone say, “Look, the NPC AI isn’t getting fixed, is it? They just stand in front of the player all the time. We need to do something.” “I know!” piped up a bright spark. “What if we just make it so you can shoot straight through them.” And another day finished early.

-What does this mean? WHAT DOES IT MEAN? “You make one fucking sound, and it’s your brains they’ll find in the garbage tomorrow morning.” The marine has his gun to a doctor’s head when he says this. Was his plan to shoot him, then sweep up his brains and pop them in the bin? And why would people be looking in the garbage in the morning? Who looks through the rubbish in the morning?

-I mentioned the teleporting NPCs. Again, I really want to stress that they do this seemingly because they can’t be bothered to walk three metres through a doorway. But here’s the craziest thing – as they appear there’s a little tingle of blue electricity, as if it’s a design feature, as if they’ve got the technology to do it. While we’re all stranded on a planet, surrounded by humans and aliens who want to kill us.

Check the whole thing for lulz: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/12/wot-i-think-aliens-colonial-marines-single-player/

Oh, the backlash on this one was strong, alright. I guess this game is just another Duke Nukem Forever - long development time but ultimately terribly disappointing.

Yeah, @FireCylinder3 is almost done playing it and said he was pretty disappointed. I know he's going to have a review up shortly. I'm eager to read it - his writing style always makes me laugh with the amount of humor and brutal honestly he puts in there. :) It's a bummer because I was expecting more from Gearbox, especially after their crazy success with the Borderlands series. Oh well, I'll still play it and come to my own conclusions, but I'm just not quite as excited to play it now.

I haven't played it and I doubt that I will. I don't always listen to the reviews, but this one is getting some pretty bad ones. I heard one person describe it as tedious and that really turned me off.

Just the problems with the AI are enough to make me not want to buy it. I heard that a lot of the super awesome content they put in the journalist demo of the game doesn't even appear in the actual one. What the hell is up with that?

That video is exactly why I don't pre-order and I think my days with Xbox and Sony may end when they launch their next platforms too. There is NO way I'd going to pay $79 for a game just to be able to try it because I can't rent it or get a used copy. They are making it so you can only use a game on your system if you bought it and so there will be no used game tradeins of purchases. Good buy Microsoft and Sony, I kid you not!

I haven't played it yet and I probably won't now after reading this. $79 is way too much for a crappy construed game. I am not one for aliens either. That is why I love this forum, steers me away from crap.

I went and played it at a friend's house, and it's actually not as bad as the reviews would make you think. That said, it's a rental at best. There's truly no scares, and you feel too invincible.
